Bush, Bloomberg bashed in 9/11 poll
Edited on Tue Sep-02-03 09:45 AM by Spazito
Two years after the attack on the World Trade Center killed nearly 3,000 people, plunged the city into an economic crisis and spurred U.S. military actions abroad, New Yorkers are increasingly disenchanted with their leaders and anxious about the war on terror.

snip

But after 24 months of terror alerts, 86% of New Yorkers would not be surprised at another attack. Twenty-five percent still believe another attack on the city is very likely, while 61% say that though the threat may have subsided, they think an attack is possible.

In a striking turnabout, 56% of New Yorkers disapprove of the job President Bush (news - web sites) is doing in the war on terrorism, while 34% approve of the administration's anti-terror policies.

snip

After increasing taxes and cutting city services to balance the city budget, Mayor Bloomberg continues to get a dismal 33% approval rating, while 52% disapprove of his performance since he took office in 2002.

1. This is not a surprise.
the repukes have a little surprise coming during their 2004 convention.

snip>

"The President has little hope of attracting new voters in New York in 2004, despite the draw of the Republican National Convention next summer.

Sixty-four percent of New Yorkers say they will vote for the Democratic candidate in next year's presidential elections, with 20% for Bush and 16% undecided. Bush, who got 19% of the New York vote in 2000, is a winner only among Republicans and 31% of whites."

2. That does not bode well for a very hospitable greeting...
...for that convention the RNC has scheduled in NYC for 2004.

Pity.

3. I think they counted some chickens when they made those plans
and they weren't quite hatched yet.

W&Co. (Rove) are believing all of their press clippings. Bad Move.

4. I think it's all motivated by guilt over 9/11
Bush and company fucked up, dropped the ball, and LIH (OP???? maybe...)
Anyway, every act since then has been motivated by guilt. Bush has the blood of 3000 Americans on his hands.
Holding the convention here is his idea of a mea culpa.

Fucking loser. I have my effigy ready.

5. I don't see it that way
Not guilt but unscrupulous politicization of a tragedy. Thye think they will be welcomed as heroes (apparently not) and regardless the telecast will be shaped to show W as just that. No matter what is going on outside the convention hall.

7. That was my first thought
Bush has no chance of winning New York (20 percent of the vote? Boy, is that embarrassing!), so it's a dumb move to have the convention there. And if they try to exploit 9/11, as they assuredly will, it will backfire big time. (BTW, I can't call up the link. What is Bush's approval rating - not just on terrorism - in the poll?)

8. I just realized that poll is of NYC voters
but 20 percent is still low.

12. It Isn't About Taking New York
It is about exploiting 9/11, yet again, in the rest of the country, with all the
carefully-crafted photo-ops that will be broadcast on the ever-compliant
media.

He is counting on Bloomberg to prevent any protests from happening anywhere
near the convention, or anywhere else that somebody might notice. The NYPD
won't be able to handle the millions of protestors who will take exception to this,
so they'll have to call out the National Guard -- Oops, they're still in Iraq.

10. And the GOP is having their convention there next year LOL!!
If this keeps up with soldiers dying every day, with the economy stinking, with everything crappy that goes along with this horrible administration, think of the protests next year. thousands of people, hundreds of thousands, hell try to get a million people there screaming their heads off outside while the gop is inside trying to exploit 9/11 for political gain cuz it happened in new york and thats where the GOP decided to hold their convention even though it always votes democrat. might as well have the convention in berkley.

what a completely stupid idea. thank god someone in the GOP thought of it.

11. The image of the Repube bluebloods wading thru protest crowds
and the police having to clear streets to get the delegates into and out of the convention center.............the American people might finally see the reality of the situation.

A few who in truth represent even fewer against the masses.

Welcome to DU :hi: If'n I haven't before.
