Kerry hits right back at Bush on explosives row
~snip~
"Mr President, for the sake of our brave men and women in uniform, for the sake of those troops who are in danger," Kerry said in Rochester, Minnesota sports arena packed with at least 10,000 supporters.

"Because of your mistakes, you owe Americans real answers about what happened, not just political attacks."

"Your administration was warned, you were put on notice but you didn't put these explosives on priority lists, you didn't think it was important.

"You didn't give the troops the instructions they need, you didn't guard the ammunition dumps and now our troops are at greater risk."

~snip~

1. Didn't bush go to bed at 8:30pm? Must be easy to sleep knowing
that those missing stockpiles could get into the hands of terrorist? Must be easy to sleep when people are dying because of your command.

33. He doesn't care - it won't affect him personally.
Even when we boot his ass out of OUR White House - he can go back to living in the lap of luxury the life of the idle rich - when he should be behind bars, AT THE MINIMUM!

2. Good. He needs to be clear that Bush didn't support the troops.
And that is who he is attacking. He needs to frame it as him STANDING UP for the troops.

6. I wholeheartedly agree. He needs to do more of this..
... type of speech.

He knows full well how it is to be unsupported in a war.
I think that's his strong point.

Kerry On!

7. You Go John!
Slap him again!

"This is a growing scandal and the American people deserve a full and honest explanation of how it happened and what the president is going to do about it."

A top Iraqi science official said Wednesday the 350 tonnes of high explosives could not have been smuggled out of the military site south of Baghdad before Saddam Hussein was ousted.

Mohammed al-Sharaa, who heads the science ministry's site monitoring department and worked with UN weapons inspectors under Saddam, said "it is impossible that these materials could have been taken from this site before the regime's fall."

It is a scandal and don't let them try to whitewash it!

10. Bush has no argument.
Until the U.N had to remove the inspectors quickly because of the imminent invasion, those explosives were safe. His arguument about it is better for the insurgents to have this amount of explosives that for Saddam to have ten times as many.

Bad argument. Saddam wasnt killing Americans trrops or civilians with them before we invaded.

And it was not likely that those explosives could be a\on a slow boat to an American harbor while Saddam owned them.

11. Weapons were still there before fall of Saddam's regime....
from the article ---

A top Iraqi science official said Wednesday the 350 tonnes of high explosives could not have been smuggled out of the military site south of Baghdad before Saddam Hussein was ousted.

Mohammed al-Sharaa, who heads the science ministry's site monitoring department and worked with UN weapons inspectors under Saddam, said "it is impossible that these materials could have been taken from this site before the regime's fall."

He said he and other officials had been ordered a month earlier to insure that "not even a shred of paper left the sites."

"The officials that were inside this facility (Al-Qaqaa) beforehand confirm that not even a shred of paper left it before the fall and I spoke to them about it and they even issued certified statements to this effect which the US-led coalition was aware of."

15. Double Turn -
"A political candidate who jumps to conclusions without knowing the facts is not a person you want as your commander in chief," Bush said in his first remarks on the subject since news of the missing explosives became public on Monday.

Um... Dipsh!t - your the one who commited 150,000 thousand troops to war without knowing the facts.

This comment is the biggest blunder of them all.

"This investigation is important, and a political candidate who jumps to conclusions without knowing the facts is not the person you want as your commander in chief," said Bush.
John ought to run with that statement til Nov.3rd

31. I say ....careful
Kerry has the momentum and the lead. Unless he knows for certain this was an administration blunder, he shouldn't stick his neck out with conjecture. Protect the lead.

In football, if you are ahead by 10 with little time left on the clock, you don't stack the line hoping for a tackle behind the line of scrimmage for a loss. You guard against a long pass, you guard against a trick play. You keep someone back...deep. Because a longshot or trick play is the only way you can lose. (on the other hand I hate the prevent defense).

I am suspicious of the story. Iraq has, for some reason, backed up the story that the explosives were there at the time of invasion. Bush has been silent on the subject, except to point out that Kerry SHOULD NOT JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS. And just now there are some posts saying that photos may show trucks leaving the area after the invasion.

There is so little time left that if the Bush group throws something out there at the last minute showing that this story isn't all it's cracked up to be, the damage would be done before the truth could come out.

Kerry should be aggressive with the obvious tried and true stuff...incompetence, dishonesty, secrecy, blunders, etc. There's PLENTY of material. Let the surrogates be outraged about the explosives and watch out for the land mines.

I understand what you are saying, but there is no doubt that there was a blunder. Regardless of WHEN it was actually removed from that site, the fact remains that bush* did nothing to retrieve it and did not make it public when informed that the explosives were missing.

34. True send it to the rebel alliance to deceminate
I think it would be great on John Stewart, clinton, gore, Clarke, dean, frankin, etc all talk about this quote:

""A political candidate who jumps to conclusions without knowing the facts is not a person you want as your commander in chief," Bush said in his first remarks on the subject since news of the missing explosives became public on Monday. "

FADE to:
The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.
Our intelligence sources tell us that he has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production.
Saddam Hussein has not credibly explained these activities. He clearly has much to hide.
