Kerry jumps to lead in Michigan

Sen. John Kerry has seemingly reversed his fortunes in Michigan, jumping to a five-point lead over President George W. Bush in the latest Detroit News tracking poll.

Last week’s tracking surveys gave as much as a five-point advantage to Bush, who is campaigning in Saginaw today after a rally at the Silverdome on Wednesday night.

Kerry’s 47-42 lead is technically within the poll’s margin of error,” he said. “But it certainly looks good for John Kerry in Michigan.”

“I’m voting for Kerry because I’m very unhappy with the way Bush has taken the country into war without consulting the United Nations,” said John Norris, a retired steel plant manager from Warren

and look for the Bush supporter asking God's blessings on Mr Bush. ;)

Best part: This is our Republican paper...telling the TRUTH! Wow. Last week, no endorsement of Bush...this week, the Truth!!!

3. I talked with a Republican last night while canvassing with MoveOn
(I do half and half/Michigan Coord. Camp. and then MoveOn) and he is voting Kerry because, in his words, this state's failing economy is much more important to him than "the bogeyman". I really think people are starting to vote issue over party. :hi: It's a great day to be a Detroit Democrat!

I also think the motivation of the people out there working door to door is helping immensely. But then, I'm biased!

7. I have talked to many Repukes at work
And they are not moving.
What is more infuriating is that they would agree with your specific points (well, some of them) and they say "I am voting for *", "He would be better on everything"

2. Bush visits Michigan and loses ground in the polls.
Makes sense to me! The more you see him, the more you hate him!

5. Sort of like the Stock Market "Piehole effect"
Every time Dubya would talk, the market would tank...

10. It's a true swing state and always has been. Kerry never had a real
comfortable lead, although most have been optimistic. They've been pulling out all the stops to yank Michigan back in line, and I think it's been done. But I'm not going to rest. Hitting the streets again tonight. :hi:

6. Yeah! That's what I'm talking about!
I live in SW Michigan, and I can't believe how many Kerry supporters I run into everywhere. I've been phone banking too, and a good 1/3 to 1/2 of the people I actually talk to are Kerry supporters. Given how I live in the Bible belt of Michigan, that's really encouraging. We're gonna win!

8. Thanks for this timely thread!
I NEEDED IT!

I drive through Livonia every day and it's like a bastion of bush loving morons.

Last night some idiot was driving around in a pickup truck with a huge Bush/Cheney sandwich sign in their truck bed!

It was bad enough having to put up with bush for four years but at least I was able to take comfort in my state not being a "red state"

Anyways..this is excellent news because I was wondering how I was going to stand living in a state full of bush enthusiasts!

19. In Redford
And I have noticed more and more Kerry signs here just within the past week. When I went to the Kerry headquarters yesterday they were totally out of signs! I think I know where they are!

22. Oh great! Good news and bad news :(
I also drive through Redford and Dearborn Heights every day and yes, I have noticed a lot of Kerry signs in Redford--far more than the dreaded bush/cheaty signs!

Dearborn Heights appears to be a tinder box ready to explode lol--it's a mixed bag of battling signs there.

The bad news is I still don't have a sign and was planning on stopping at the Redford office today! :(

11. More encouragement from W. Michigan:
Had to drive through E.G.R. to Dem. Hdq. to get Kerry/Edwards signs, bumper stickers, pins and counted the yard signs along the way:

41 K/E vs. 23 B/C

21. I was in GR in September and was amazed at the number of Kerry signs
I was in Holland last week, all Bush, but that is to be expected.

I hear you have a democratic mayor in GR, and that he's a UCC minister. Cool-I grew up attending Plymouth UCC on Kalamazoo AVE. I moved to the Detroit area in 1987.

13. Bush is in 3rd place in yard signs in mid-Michigan!
Here, in the Clinton, Ingham county areas Bush has 3rd place locked up in yard signs. Kerry is in 1st place, and For Sale is in 2nd!
A few weeks ago, my husband and I drove around Clinton County, which is a republicscam stronghold - but the Kerry signs outnumbered the Bush signs 2 to 1. Im very curious as to how the vote will be here this year - we MAY GO BLUE!!!

20. Ch 4 had a reporter in the Silverdome last evening -- forbidden to talk...
...to any attendees. Had to stay in a marked off area of the floor.

She mentioned it on camera.

Alas, no follow-up by the anchors.

Shit!
