Cheney to Make Visit to Hawaii on Sunday
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&ncid=703&e=3&u=/ap/20041029/ap_on_el_pr/cheney_hawaii

~snip~

The Bush-Cheney campaign says Hawaii is within reach and that every electoral vote is worth fighting for, or in Hawaii's case, four electoral votes.

"We are competitive in the state; this is a very close race," said Cheney spokeswoman Anne Womack who announced the surprise visit Thursday night.

Gov. Linda Lingle, Hawaii's first Republican governor in four decades, said the Cheney appearance is a response to polls showing Bush and John Kerry (news - web sites) neck and neck, a remarkable turn of events in a state that Democrat Al Gore (news - web sites) won by 18 percentage points in 2000.

Democrats say Sen. John Kerry still has an edge over the president.

With the lowest unemployment rate in the nation, Hawaii has none of the economic problems that many states on the mainland have. The islands are in the midst of a construction boom. Tourism is soaring after recovering from the Sept. 11 attacks.

2. This administration has a knack for being on vacation at critical times
So I understand why tourists and rich retirees vote Republican, their tax cuts let them visit Hawaii, where the local population works for minimum wage in hotels and restaurants to service them.

But how have the Repukes managed to pull off letting tourists vote in Hawaii?

8. I know that tourists cannot legally vote in Hawaii
Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 06:51 AM by kcwayne
but I figure that the Repukes have figured out some way to have all those timeshare dwellers vote absentee. Do you think anyone will figure it out when the number of votes cast from Hawaii are 3 times the population?

6. News from Planet OH RIGHT SURE: Send the least popular Repuke...
... to win the hearts and minds of Hawaiians?

What's the real story here?

The Dick has the lowest favorability rating of anyone inside BushCo.

There's something sinister afoot here.

21. You know, I was wondering the same thing...
Cheney, as you have observed, has perhaps the lowest favorability of the Bushistas, and there has been speculation in recent months that someone else on the ballot with Bush would be better for the Bushistas;

The Pacific Ocean is awfully big...

17. Uh Oh....Cheney is leaving "The Mainland"- what does that mean?
....Does Crashcart know something that makes him want to be far, far away from the Mainland? If something did happen, it would be too obvious, eh?

Also, if he thinks that Hawaii is going Bush/Cheney, he's really delusional....they'll take one look at him and say no thanks....

They must be getting desperate. Their internal polling must indicate a far closer race than they were expecting.

26. An 18 point turnaround for repukes
since 2000? Hawaii in play? All this based on an oversampled RW poll? If Asshat/Fatslob thought they could compete in OH, FL, PA, etc, would they be sending the Dick to Hawaii to scrounge for votes?
Uh, no.

33. Studied, huh? Here's the Cliff Notes...
Build largest, most expensive military in history. Select small, virtually random enemy with outdated, degraded equipment. Con them into destroying any kind of defenses that remain. Go!

The "brilliance" was a sinister one developed long ago. Something about convincing the people they are about to be attacked and naming the dissenters as unpatriotic....

That, or someone is roasting a hog and Cheney can't keep away. (There isn't oil in the Hawaiian Islands, is there?)

As a tax payer and a member of the great unwashed hordes, I hope I am not paying for "my" albino Veep to go visit Hawaii.
