Florida's population to increase on Election Day
By Laura Parker, USA TODAY

MIAMI — Almost 3,000 lawyers have been recruited by Sen. John Kerry's campaign to monitor voting in all 67 Florida counties on Election Day. The legal team plans to be so well-prepared that a lawyer will be able to respond within five minutes to any voting problem — even if it means going to court.
Republican lawyers say they're equally poised to protect the interests of President Bush's campaign in the state where the 2000 election ultimately was decided.

Stephen Zack, a Miami lawyer who worked for Al Gore in the 2000 Florida recount battle, vows that Democrats won't be outmaneuvered by Republicans next week as they were in the critical first hours of that 36-day dispute, which gave George W. Bush a 537-vote margin that sent him to the White House.

"He (Zack) has been adamant from the end of that election that they weren't going to be caught short twice," says Susan MacManus, a longtime Florida political analyst. "The post-election analysis by Democratic and Republican groups alike is that last time, the Republicans had the better legal team in place and the better legal strategy."

Hayden Dempsey, a lawyer for the Bush campaign, says the Republicans' legal team also is "fully engaged." Republican lawyers and other poll watchers will monitor the election to assure "that the laws and the rules are applied evenly and consistently," he says

1. From your caption I thought that the DeLay raiders were on their way to
FL - vote in their own state then fly in to vote again or pound on doors of government buildings.

7. Yes, and I will applaud attorneys as well
Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 12:03 PM by Eloriel
I leared several valuable and interesting things during the debacle that was the FL 2000 recount effort.

One was that our vote is sacred and that every vote really does count (and should).

The second is how incredibly important attorneys are. One of their most important functions is to help sort out the law, through court caes and judges. FL law was unclear on some issues that came up -- the ONLY way to sort that out when not everyone agrees on what is really meant, what can and can't happen, what should or should not happen, is for lawyers to present their arguments to judges.

I myself have never been a lawyer-basher, and never will. Yes, there are lousy ones. Yes, there are greedy and self-serving ones. Yes, there are purely (insanely) ideological ones. But their function in a democracy where a Constitution and state and local laws hold the whole damn thing together is paramount.

17. Yes, my thanks to you and to my friend
who will be in New Mexico working to make sure that all the voters in the poorer areas of Albuquerque are allowed to vote without interference.

Its the highest form of patriotism in my opinion: protecting the most basic right of a citizen.

3. Proof that Kerry knows how to plan a war
Florida will be a war zone November 2nd. Kerry looks like he's adequately prepared for any right-wing thug tactics.

Go JK!

* is finished. He can not win a fair election.

If he somehow steals it again through corrupt republican courts, all bets are off.

The Declaration of Independence 2005 goes into effect.

You can cry paranoia all you want, but the bottom line is the sons a bushes are in control. Go a head and vote early (In accordance with the original republican mailers), vote often, the count is theirs. Florida will not be red or blue kids, Florida will be contested.
