Labor (Dept) Memo Suggests Bush to Win Election

By LEIGH STROPE, AP Labor Writer

WASHINGTON - Labor Department (news - web sites) staff, analyzing statistics from private economists, report in an internal memo that President Bush (news - web sites) is likely to do "much better" in Tuesday's election than the polls are predicting.

The Kerry campaign said the analysis was an improper use of taxpayer money, and the Labor Department acknowledged Friday, "Clearly, this kind of armchair political analysis doesn't belong in government memos, even if they are entirely internal."

The Labor Department report, obtained by The Associated Press, includes an analysis of economic models that suggest Bush will beat Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites). Titled "In Focus: Predicting the Election Outcome," the memo says, "Nearly every single model has him winning."

"Some show the margin of victory being smaller than the models' inherent margin of error, while others report the lead as substantial. And this is without the consideration of a third-party candidate."

1. Make sure you put "Labor Dept" in your subject line!
"Labor" would never release such a report.

6. I second that!
I figured it was a memo from Doug McCarron, the president and asshole in chief of the Carpenters Union.

What do you think would have happened to Hitler's men if they told him that he was losing the war?

3. These projections are based solely off of economic data
and don't take into account the fact that there's a war going on. They are garbage.

4. Bush's labor department has been wrong about so many things
I would have been way more worried if they would have said Kerry was more likely to win.

7. doesn't the Labor department have better things to do?
isn't their excuse for discontinuing the reporting of mass layoffs that they didn't have the resources?

Economics, a science in which two leading economists can get the Nobel prize in economics in the same year for saying the exact opposite thing.

I think I'll stick with the Packers-Redskins game as a more accurate predictor, thanks.

15. No wonder. The economic data that we get from the labor dept
has been the biggest pile of bullshit bush campaign literature. Any doubt that it would indicate a bush win?
