Bush rips Kerry's "shameful" attacks
COLUMBUS, United States (AFP) - President George W. Bush called Democratic rival John Kerry 's charges that Bush failed to catch or kill Osama bin Laden "especially shameful" given a new tape by the terrorist mastermind.

"Unfortunately my opponent tonight continued to say things he knows are not true, accusing our military of passing up a chance to get Osama bin Laden at Tora Bora," an Afghan stronghold, in 2001, Bush told cheering supporters here.
............
Speaking to reporters outside the campaign rally here, White House communications director Dan Bartlett said that the tape should not affect the way Bush campaigns but that Kerry should have marked a 12-hour truce.

"You would think that there would be a, maybe, 12 hours to let the American absorb what has just happened today," he said.

Prodded on why, if the tape ought not to affect the campaign, Kerry should have stopped criticizing the president, Bartlett revised his statement, saying that the problem was that Kerry's attack had been "discredited."

However, unchallenged news reporting about the standoff and public remarks by Bush aides, including Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, also placed Al-Qaeda's mastermind in the remote bastion.

2. Considering the reports on Hardball...
It sounds like:

1) * knew about the tape very early this morning (Condi told him). He then modified his daily stump speeches to compensate.
2) Kerry was notified just before the tape came out. He didn't modify stump speeches earlier in the day, because he wasn't told what was up.

So Kerry didn't have the info * did. Nasty, underhanded, sneaky trick from the * camp. I wonder why? Do they really SUCK that bad? Answer: Yeah.

3. Nothing shameful about blaming Carter for the Iran hostage crisis..
and unlike the hostages taken in Iraq or 9/11, President Carter made sure they all returned alive!

But nothing shameful about calling Kerry weak on defense or indecisive.

4. Not that the "military passed up a chance" dumbass
but that you decided iraq was more important, so the job wound up outsourced to the pakistanis.

The truth hurts.

Bush said he'd get Bin Laden dead or alive. Today Bin Laden is alive. Bush Failed.

Bush said OBL could run but couldn't hide. Today OBL came out of hiding. Bush Failed.

The country is less secure as a result.

The truth hurts.

Bush staff calling tape gift for campaign

See tape as boost for Prez

We want people to think 'terrorism' for the last four days," said a Bush-Cheney campaign official. "And anything that raises the issue in people's minds is good for us."

A senior GOP strategist added, "anything that makes people nervous about their personal safety helps Bush."

He called it "a little gift," saying it helps the President but doesn't guarantee his reelection.

7. Key requirement for "GOP strategist" or B/C "campaign official":
Anonymity. And weaselly behavior, of course.
