Cherie Blair lambasts Bush over human rights
http://scotlandonsunday.scotsman.com/politics.cfm?id=1259162004

She attacked the manner in which the White House has dealt with the human rights of UK citizens detained at the US-run Camp X-Ray prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

Blair said the decision by the US Supreme Court, fiercely opposed by Bush’s government, to give legal protection to two of the Britons detained at the camp was "profoundly important" and a "significant victory for human rights and the international rule of law".

She took a sideswipe at Bush’s record on gay rights, condemning the arrest of a homosexual couple in the President’s home state of Texas, for defying a ban on gay sex. The US Supreme Court’s decision to throw out the law, which had been backed by Bush, was a "model of judicial reasoning". Blair also called the US legal code an "outdated grandfather clock".

23. The POODLE

Tony Blair yesterday offered a crowded House of Commons his most direct apology yet for deficiencies in the intelligence dossiers he presented to MPs to help justify the invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

6. Too true. More people should've come out against this guy earlier.
Suddenly more people are voicing their disgust for Bush but they shouldn't have waited so long!

7. She reportedly HATES Bush and was furious with Tony
Apparently, after Bush was *elected*, on their first trip to the US, Cherie kept complaining about why they had to befriend "those people" and saying how she didn't trust Bush. She was heavily rooting for Gore.

She also reportedly confronted Bush over the death penalty over dinner.

This is all from a Salon article on the Blairs from a few months back.

There's an interesting story about Cherie and Tony. They were both aspiring politicians, but they made a deal: they were both gonna run for parliament, but whoever got their first would get to be the politician in the family, the other would remain in law. In the '82 or '84 elections (I don't know the exact date), they both ran. She lost. He won. Hence, he got the political career, while Cherie went on to become one of the most successful lawyers in the country.

16. Um, why do you have to call her a whore?
Do you know her? Do you have a specific reason for disliking her? Is it just because you don't like her husband?

As for that kiss - that was just diplomatic protocol.

17. Oh boy. Another one of those "opinionated" women!
Cherie has speaking out against the Bush administration for some time now, though I suspect the media has not given her comments the merit they deserved. I also think, like Teresa Heinz-Kerry, it is a constant struggle for the spouse of a politician to maintain their role of support, when they feel strongly about issues upon which their husbands must be cautious about.
