Kerry most popular in state's (CA) coastal areas
(snip)

The poll of likely voters found Kerry's lead over Bush has narrowed recently to just seven points, 49 percent to 42 percent. Nine percent of voters remain undecided. In early October, Kerry led Bush 49 percent to 40 percent.

Meanwhile, Boxer, who is seeking a third term, has a 19-point lead over Republican Bill Jones, 53 to 34 percent. That's up from early October, when she led Jones by a 16-point margin, 48 to 32 percent.

Even at this late point in the race, 41 percent of voters said they had no opinion of Jones, a Central Valley farmer and former secretary of state.

The presidential vote in the state continues to reflect a stark geographic split, with Kerry heavily favored in the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay areas and Bush strong in the Central Valley and the fast-growing Riverside and San Bernardino regions of Southern California.

2. Kerry will Carry Cali
Boxer will win re-election, for the 2nd biggest Dem Senate margin of victory.
(I'd say biggest, but you should see the doofus they have running in Illinois...)

3. Cal is going blue!
I live in Riverside County, just south of San Bernardino. There are more Kerry voters than meets the eye. Some just stay quiet. I don't.

5. Kerry will carry CA with a much BIGGER
margin than 7 points. I have seen more Kerry bumperstickers all over from San Diego Co in the South up to Kern Co in Central CA than I have seen for any other Democrat going back years and years. I would bet that Kerry stickers outnumber chimpy ones by at least 10 to 1. :bounce:

6. Well, yes, the coastal region is more liberal and democratic
I live in Santa Cruz County and went to the Sacramento area---a small town east of Sacramento---for a visit and, surprisingly for me, heard a few young women talking positively about Bush. I never hear that in Santa Cruz or Monterey Counties. Bush people know they are outnumbered here and keep their views to themselves. A reversal of what I read from DUers in other states.

7. Want a funny?
I'm in Marin, as liberal as it gets out here. And yeah, the B/C fans are far and few between. A month ago saw my impeach bumper sticker, started yelling and calling me a Commie, and we almost jumped out of the cars at each other.

Very surprising for here.

9. Coastal areas... Like LOS freakin ANGELES? San Francisco? Oakland?
In other words, WHERE MOST OF THE PEOPLE LIVE. Gimme a break already. The only way bush could win CA is if he wins everything else first. I'm looking forward to double digit margins in CA, and expect the CA Dems are phone banking for PA and OH and FL right now.

10. Pretty accurate assessment of the state.
I grew up in California and went to college at UC Riverside and I can attest to the fact that the Inland area is becoming the new conservative bastion of California, as opposed to the smaller but more affluent Orange County. Arnold depended on the rapid support from Riverside and San Bernardino during the recall. Though its certainly not nerely as conservative as South Carolina or say Alabama, Republicans and conservative groups there love to use issues like Affirmative action, or the ills of illegal immigrants and play on racial and xenophobic stereotypes to drive wedges between the diverse voters.

I for one embrace the multiethnic dynamic of California and hope it become even more diversified than it already is, its just such a dissapointing shame that the xenophobia and playing on "Fox News Watchers" fears still works so well there, even among some minority groups. Its especially disspointing to hear friends back home go off on tirades about why we should shut down the border, or ban all non-english languages. Wish they could see beyond their anger and think more about it, makes me pretty sad.
