Minnesota Poll: Kerry takes 49%-41% lead over Bush
Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry has opened up a lead over President Bush in Minnesota, a state where the presidential race has for months been considered too close to call.

A new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll found Kerry with the support of 49 percent of likely voters, while Bush is supported by 41 percent.

The poll, conducted Tuesday through Friday, also found that the state's electorate is in a highly volatile condition, and several other polls have painted a somewhat confusing picture of the hard-fought race in Minnesota.

(snip)

"This new poll is pretty good news for Kerry," said Larry Jacobs, director of the 2004 Elections Project at the University of Minnesota's Hubert H. Humphrey Institute. "Bush has been consistently stuck in dangerous territory for an incumbent, unable to cross the 50-yard line, and there are not a whole lot of dark clouds out there for Kerry."

3. what pct of the electorate there will vote on the TSVMs?
If the machines are in the right areas the pools won't matter. Neither will the votes.

5. I haven't done an exhaustive search
but I don't think ANY votes in MN are touch screen. It's been pretty much like taking a scan-tron test. Those are the kind where you fill in a circle, just in case. That's what it's been since 1988 and I've lived in both urban and rural parts of the state. I've certainly not heard us mentioned in any of the BBV type alerts. However oour sec'y of state is a total shill for the right who'd probably like to steal this one if she had the chance.

8. I feel good about this poll, but bad about something my uncle said today
He was railing against "that damn Kerry." "In Viet Nam for four months and he gets 4 purple Hearts? I bet that when the truth come out, we'll find that he ahd this planned from the start."

I didn't have the heart to get into a discussion with him on it and point out where he was wrong. He did 3 tours as helicopter mechanic and I was about seven years younger enough not to have to deal with Viet Nam. I did point out that it was three Purple Hearts, but let the rest go - my aunt has cancer and in all likelyhood will not see 2005. I doubt that he will get out to vote - he has enough to do right now that getting into a arguement about Kerry at least have the balls not to have to get his daddy get him out of serving would serve no purpose.

I was really hoping that I would find something here tonight that would offset that experience today - this really helps.

11. He got his Purple Hearts 4 months into his..
..SECOND (2nd) COMBAT TOUR in VietNam. He completed his FIRST TOUR aboard a Navy ship offshore where he saw no combat, so John Kerry VOLUNTEERED for a 2nd Combat Tour REQUESTING one of the most dangerous assignments---Swift Boats. He won his medals when he volunteered for a
2nd COMBAT TOUR!

15. I know that, but saw no point in trying to argue it
I would think that my uncle, who was there for more than the minimum amount of time himelf would have picked up on that, but he's probably just regurgitating something that one of his peers said. I'm disappointed that he doesn't speak ill of AWOL, who could even make good on his substitutr service.

He's got more important things on his mind and probably won't make it to the polls, but I'm thrilled to see that my state is trending towards giving * the b-tchslap he so badly deserves. I predict the pig farm is sold right after New Year's, so they can maximize the profit from having Poppy's pals buy him out of another miserable failure.

10. This is a hell of a relief. I've really worried about MN for weeks.
It's the one thing that's kept me from getting optimistic.

This is wayyyyyyyyy more like what I believe Minnesota to be -- one of the more enlightened states in the nation.

Hey, folks, we just may win this thing!

13. whew!
I had seen yesterday that www.pollkatz.com showed the MN race at 50.888% for Kerry. This looks like a landslide in MN. Landslide Kerry. Not only is he going to win - he's going to have a strong mandate to govern. Maybe some Senate coattails too?

14. No senate race here this year
looking for house race coat tails to help elect Patty Wetterling.

Also this poll nearly matches a poll released earlier this week.

http://wcco.com/campaign2004/local_story_302092459.html

The statewide poll released Wednesday shows 49 percent of likely voters surveyed favor Kerry, while 42 percent support Bush. Ralph Nader received support from 2 percent of those surveyed, according to a report in Thursday's edition of the St. Cloud Times.
