Minnesota Poll: Kerry takes 49%-41% lead over Bush
Bob Von Sternberg
Star Tribune
Published October 31, 2004

Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry has opened up a lead over President Bush in Minnesota, a state where the presidential race has for months been considered too close to call.

A new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll found Kerry with the support of 49 percent of likely voters, while Bush is supported by 41 percent.

The poll, conducted Tuesday through Friday, also found that the state's electorate is in a highly volatile condition, and several other polls have painted a somewhat confusing picture of the hard-fought race in Minnesota.

For example, a St. Paul Pioneer Press/MPR poll of likely Minnesota voters released Saturday showed the race essentially tied, with Bush at 48 percent and Kerry at 47 percent. But a Zogby tracking poll also released Saturday showed Kerry with 49 percent to Bush's 43 percent in the state.

(snip)

The average of those polls shows Kerry with a 3-point advantage, 48 percent to 45 percent.

2. Take MN off the battleground list.
It shouldn't have been on there anyways. :)

3. what pct of the electorate there will vote on the TSVMs?
If the machines are in the right areas the pools won't matter. Neither will the votes.

5. I don't think they're used here
When I voted in the primary just a couple of months ago, it was on a paper ballot that was fed into a scanning machine. My precinct, at least, could have a recount.

4. Zogby called MN for Kerry a few days ago.
On Ed Schultz's radio show.

I live in a fairly rural part of MN. Lots and lots of Bush signs.
Lots of Kerry signs too, but those signs don't last long. We have some very agile re-thug sign swipers in this part of the country.

Nevertheless, MN is a lead-pipe cinch for Kerry.
