Thousands of Germans Protest Neo-Nazis

Sunday October 31, 2004 4:16 AM

BERLIN (AP) - Several thousand demonstrators forced a group of 300 neo-Nazis to abandon the planned route of their march through the eastern city of Potsdam on Saturday, police said.

Some of the about 4,000 demonstrators used burning trash cans as barricades or threw stones and other objects, forcing police to use water cannons to keep the two sides apart.

Four officers were injured, according to police.

The march in Potsdam was organized by Christian Worch, one of Germany's most visible neo-Nazis.

1. I had a German student tell me not to worry about German neo-Nazis....
that the movement there is weak, BUT that the next great world fascist power would be the United States!

We have had our Reichstag Fire on 9/11, our Leni Riefenstahl "Swift Boat Vets" and Goebbels propaganda organs in Fox and CNN ever since. The Bush blitzkrieg on Iraq was our "invasion of Poland". I place BushCo on a timeline at around 1940.

2. You can add the Enabling Act/Patriot Act
to your comparative list. Or not!

3. Actually, we have to be very cautious about them right now.
The right wing German nationalist party (NPD)has gained a lot in recent state elections. As well, the federal government was net able to ban them due to intelligence blunders.

They just recently have forged an alliance with another right wing party (the wing nuts were weak in Germany because they were split) - and also started to officially incorporate (former?) neo-Nazis into their rows. Today they have voted a well known neo-Nazi (Thorsten Heise) into their leadership. This guy is a convicted felon and tries to get militant Nazi-skinheads on board.

This is a pretty alarming movement. I do hope that those voters that had voted the nationalists just as some kind of protest are appalled by this and will let them sink into obscurity next time they vote.

5. That's what they said about Hitler in the 1920's...
Yes, we need to get rid of the BFEE, but they ignore their Skinheads at all our peril.
