AP: Bush Has Slight Electoral Lead

4 minutes ago

By RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) and Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) are virtually tied in the Electoral College (news - web sites) count, fighting over eight to 10 states so close and unpredictable that anything is possible Tuesday night.

<snip>

"Under normal circumstances, undecided voters break against the incumbent this late in an election. However, these are not normal circumstances. This is a time of war," said Michigan pollster Steve Mitchell.

<snip>

According to an Associated Press analysis, 26 states are solidly behind Bush or lean his way for 222 electoral votes. Kerry has 16 states plus the District of Columbia secured or leaning his direction for 211 electoral votes.

<snip>

It is down to this: Bush needs to scrape together at least 48 of the remaining 105 electoral votes to keep his job. Kerry needs 59 to move into the White House.

The remaining 105 electoral votes are in the eight most competitive states: Florida, Ohio, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and New Mexico.

1. Oh, Ron Fournier. Never mind.
And the remaining electoral votes are in the swing states, where Kerry is mostly ahead.

6. It's going to be close?
When did that happen?

Seriously, where did they find this guy? How much do they pay for this in-depth analysis?

News flash: Dems need to turn out in record breaking numbers! I understand the 120 million vote projection still reflects only 60%. If that's correct, we need to drag every able, registered democrat to the polls and make sure they vote and we need to do it better than the repukelicans.

Kerry on

GOTV:

19. No way do I buy Bush winning Ohio
Unless you live in this state, you have no idea of how strong the grassroots effort is to oust Bush. Plus, Kerry is outdrawing Bush with frequent campaign visits. Massive crowds are always there to see Kerry, unlike those that show up to listen to W's lies.

Bush has screwed himself in Ohio and will not be the winner here, unless of course he steals it. But from all I've gathered, Kerry is ready to go to the mat to prevent another Fla debacle and USSC decision.

pretty red..with editorials and letter...I suppose it had to "pay" for endorsing in order not to lose subscribers...

13. This won't bring me down.
I live in Reno, NV and just returned home from getting my flu shot. When I first got there I was greeted by a parking lot full of K/E bumper stickers, which naturally put me in a good mood. Standing in line there were a lot of angry seniors basically saying it won't be like this next year when Kerry is President. Being a people watcher I noticed only one couple that were not speaking out and so I asked them how they felt. They supported bush and said the shortage of flu vaccine had nothing to do with him. I pointed out that nothing ever does with bush, however, we have the largest deficits ever, a war on terra and a senseless war in Iraq that has become a recruiting ground for bad guys, corporations own bush, and the list goes on. They were then confronted, civilly, by a multitude of seniors. When I was leaving and walked by them they made it a point to say goodbye to me with a smile.
Point being, I don't believe these polls at all.

14. Media Instinct: Make It a Good Show
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 01:03 PM by Laelth
I predict election night's gonna be really boring for the media. We, on the other hand, will be positively giddy as Kerry surges ahead in a landslide victory.

Check out Laelths Election Projection.

Remember, though, we have to GOTV to make it happen!
