El Paso Poised to Back Kerry
Bush in same position as 2000, poll finds

President Bush's standing among El Paso voters has barely changed in four years, according to a new El Paso Times/KVIA-ABC 7 Poll -- suggesting that Democrat challenger John Kerry will likely carry the county by 12 to 20 percentage points. Democrat Al Gore won El Paso by 18 points in 2000.

The new El Paso Times-KVIA poll shows Kerry with a 5-point lead among registered voters heading into Tuesday's election. A similar poll four years ago gave Gore a 7-point lead in El Paso just before the election. Undecided El Paso voters have tended to vote Democratic on Election Day.

Felipe Martinez, 74, a Central El Pasoan, said he voted for Gore in 2000 and is voting for Kerry this time.

2. Good to Know El Paso Is an Island of Sanity Among Texas Cities
I confess ignorance regarding Texas. All I hear is how it's a 'pug paradise, so this is good news indeed.

6. Glad to Hear It
I wish some national figure would emerge from Texas who counters popular perception of the state as all 'pugs. I admire Jim Hightower, but I wish he had more prominence nationally. Perhaps John Kerry's victory will give him a higher profile!

4. This is a city that...
traditionally votes Democratic...very large Hispanic population, yet, the local newspaper (The El Paso Times) does not reflect the population ...they endorsed Bush (twice).

7. I predict El Paso, SA, Austin, and Dallas to all go for Kerry
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 11:46 AM by TexasDem4Kerry
When it comes to Houston (Harris County) he should, but I am not yet convinced. I did some work down there a few weeks back and the level of stubbornness rather shook me. However, I have a friend there that told me it was looking better.

10. Poll showed 7 point lead, actually won by 18 points

Now isnt that typical!

ALL the polls are biased by anywhere from 10% up to 20% in favor of Bush.
