Deep-pocket Democrat is Senate race wild card

(Another article further down!)

In an episode of the often hilariously on-the-mark HBO show, "The Mind of the Married Man," the married men's boss joins their regular poker game and suggests playing with wild cards.

The married men, who all write for a fictitious Chicago newspaper, scoff. We don't play wild card poker, they say collectively.

Eventually, they do.

To the state and national Democratic Party movers and shakers out to establish the direction of next year's Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race, Democrat Charles Deans Crystle Jr. is a wild card.

They scoff at his credentials, but know he has political strength because he has money. He sold off his share of a business software company known as Chili!Soft a few years ago for $5 million.

So eventually, they know the wild card could be a factor in their game.

Charlie Crystle, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in 2004, today criticized his primary opponent, Joe Hoeffel, on the issue of trade.

“As Millions lose their jobs to Free Trade, Joe Hoeffel says ‘I’m Pretty Much a Free Trader’, joining George Bush, Dick Cheney, Arlen Specter and other Free Traders,” according to Crystle.

<snip>

On August 5th, 2003, Joe Hoeffel spoke openly on PCN about Free Trade to a group of state legislators. Told of the pain felt in Western Pennsylvania caused by Free Trade, Joe Hoeffel said the following when
specifically asked about his opinion of Free Trade: “I’m pretty much a Free Trader.” Hoeffel then went on to explain that people who have lost their jobs could get training.

Crystle continued, “Free Trade is killing this country and benefits only the largest corporations. Bush, Specter, and sadly, Joe Hoeffel have failed to act to save America’s crucially important manufacturing sector.

2. I'm interested.
I want someone to beat Arlen Specter. Did Joe Hoffel vote for the Patriot Act and for the Iraq Resolution?

4. Yep, both
NO WAY that anyone would want to get behind Hoeffel in PA-- no wonder that the "establishment" is scared, we've got a real alternative in Crystle!

7. I'LL Get Behind Hoeffel
in PA. He has a (D) behind his name. Remember, this is the land of Rick Santorum. Sure I'd prefer a Wellstone, but that kinda guy ain't got a snow ball's chance around here.

5. And he is now making weekly speeches on the House floor
about U.S. policy (and the problems therof) in Iraq.

Let's not demonize Hoeffel here. I'd put his voting record about in the middle of House Dems.

I have made no endorsement in this race yet.
