NYT: On the Ground, a Slight Swing Toward Kerry (IOWA)
IOWA
On the Ground, a Slight Swing Toward Kerry
By MICHAEL MOSS

Published: November 1, 2004

ES MOINES, Oct. 31 - With both parties fiercely focused on getting their likely backers out to vote in Iowa on Tuesday, a new poll suggests that President Bush's support in this battleground state waned last week.

The tight race here could slip into legal warfare as soon as 6 a.m. Monday, when election officials in numerous counties begin unwrapping completed absentee ballots in preparation for counting. Starting then, Republican leaders said, they will challenge any ballots cast by Democrats who they suspect were ineligible to vote. Democrats say they will be out in force to protect any votes from being unfairly tossed out.

2. We were in Iowa today
traveled from Minnesota over towards Waterloo. We stopped in several spots for snacks, gas, etc. My husband had on his Kerry shirt and button. Many people commented that they liked his shirt and in a grocery store in Waverly getting groceries for our daughter who is going to school there, people stopped and talked to him. One lady was a Business Law professor. She helped register one of her clients and he asked who he should vote for. She asked him how much money he made and he said $18,000. She said vote for Kerry. I think things are a whole lot better than the neocons want us to believe.
