Nordic, Baltic states warning
From correspondents in Washington
November 1, 2004

THE United States has warned US citizens living in or passing through the Nordic and Baltic states of possible imminent terrorist attacks in crowded public places in those countries.
The State Department, in notices issued by the US embassies in Finland and Latvia, urged Americans to be particularly vigilant in shopping centres and mass transportation hubs in Nordic and Baltic nations.

"The US Department of State wishes to alert US citizens, either resident in or travelling through the Nordic/Baltic region, that it has received threat information and urges all US citizens in the Nordic and Baltic countries to be vigilant as to their surroundings," the embassy in Helsinki said.

1. Does this include Sweden, Norway, Denmark etc.?
Also, what is the reason for terror attacks in those countries? The article didn't say.

3. There was no mention Of Denmark or Sweden.
Latvia, Estonia, Norway and Finland were mentioned. A possible reason could be the current Chechen situation in Russia.

4. It just seems so strange = US citizens in Baltic states.
I wonder if it simply has to do with access.

5. Terror reigns in Finland
Umm.. What?

I live in Finland, and there is absolutely NO indication of terror/unrest of any kind. Our media is allready ridiculing the statement.

9. Reply from Finland
In a German news source (http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/0,1518,325916,00.html) Finnish police was quoted, saying they had no evidence of any danger, and the warning could be "in relation with the U.S. election campaign".

11. What a pile of crap...
I am finnish born and francly I cannot understand why on earth anyone would want to attack Finland. 5 million people? Come on!

Okay, I will say that it is not safe being an American in Finland as we absolutely positively 'hate' Americans. If you went to a local bar etc. and said you were american you would be likely to get punched out.

And what freaking shopping centers??? The biggest in the whole nation is about 1/100th of the size of some of the 'small' ones in the US.

No-one (terrorists like al-quida) would ever attack Finland.

I highly doupt this is true. :p
