Breaking: Deputy Governor of Baghdad has been assassinated.
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 02:20 AM by jchild
I will post a link as soon as I find one. This was just on CBS2 LA news. Insurgents have killed the deputy governor of Badhdad.

Here's a link and the article:

Iraq deputy killed in ambush
From correspondents in Baghdad
November 1, 2004

A DEPUTY governor of Baghdad, Hassam Kamel Abdel Fattah, was shot dead by unknown assailants in the southern district of Dora today, a spokesman at Iraq's interior ministry said.

"He was travelling to work by car at about 7.47am (1547 AEDT) when unknown assailants gunned him down," Colonel Adnan Abdul Rahman said.

Two of the deputy governor's bodyguards were also injured in the attack, he said.

Gunmen kill deputy governor of Baghdad
Sunday, October 31, 2004
(10-31) 22:51 PDT BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) --

Gunmen killed the deputy governor of Baghdad on his way to work Monday, Iraqi officials said.

Hatim Kamil was assassinated in a drive-by shooting, said Baghdad Governor Ali al-Haidari. He had no other details.

Interior Ministry spokesman Col. Adnan Abdul-Rahman said Kamil was killed when gunmen opened fire on his car in the southern Doura neighborhood. Two of his bodyguards were also wounded in the attack, Abdul-Rahman said.

Insurgents have killed dozens of Iraqi politicians and government workers in recent months in a bid to destabilize the country's reconstruction.

And it should not be! I read what I write, but at the same time I am appalled. This situation sucks, but I hope our next president can make the world situation better.

6. Your Kerry photo is a forecast and is very disturbing. Consider the child.
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 02:24 AM by JohnOneillsMemory
So many will die to make election day headlines. And the Fallujah massacre is about to go off the charts while we Murkins sit around listening to lawyers chew for weeks on our corrupt election.

Uh, I know it makes for a Norman Rockwell-toned campaign photo but I'm horrified to see that small boy 'saluting' Kerry in imitation of military service.

That child will be holding the leash in 10 or 15 years no matter who's in the White House. The Pax Americana will continue under Kerry also. Merely changes in style and tactics if we are lucky.

Imitation is how we become adults. Thinking is how we avoid becoming the trigger fingers for fascism. The militarization of our culture will be hastened by a Kerry win as killing on command and trusting weaponized authority continues to be a pathway to credibility, manhood, and civic virtue.

Propaganda uses everyone possible to sell death and dehumanize us.

I looked at it as a mom from a non-military background, assumed he was just caught in the act of brushing hair out of his face or some similar thing.

22. Yes. There is no hope. Let's all off ourselves.
Finished with that rant? I carefully removed my adjective of choice.

Your loose definition of fascism is not useful. And your demonization of Kerry is disgusting. Not to mention how it denigrates every person here at DU putting in time to fight for our constitution and our vote.

Go crawl back under that rock you came from. It's nice and safe there.

37. "Demonizing Kerry"? "Denigrating DU"? By criticising militarism?...right.
And thank you for YOUR reasoned and rational response.

I will try to spell out my point a little better so you might not react with such unwarranted characterizations of my words.

1.Children imitate adults and take on their implied values very early in life.

2. Militarism is indoctrinated in children so they will be tools of destruction at age 18 for a corrupt power structure that uses war as an extension of economics benefitting the rich with the blood of the poor and those who are intentionally misinformed.

3. This campaign has seen the continued rise in stature of those who have been physically present in this carnage with the use of labels such as 'war hero' or 'deserter.'

4. Leadership qualities (synonymous with 'real manhood') have been defined as the willingness to kill on command from authority. And that is how we got in the mess we are in now. Believe it, brother.
I've worked closely with men who joined the military because their fathers did and the gender identity issues involved which are primal and deep seated in their psyches from early childhood.

5. The cultural values already in place and the world-wide infrastructure of the American Empire and it's need for the planet's oil to continue dominance is already in place and won't be eliminated by voting on November 2, 2004 no matter how much we want it to be so.

6. The idea that that saluting child comprehends what is going on or what is at stake for the species is absurd. Small children parrot adults.

7. I want Kerry to win but know that he is not an omnipotent savior.

8. Do not fall into the fundamentalist way of thinking that you are "either with us or against us." It is both blinding and dehumanizing and I expect better from the community I value being a part of here at democraticunderground.

9. Personally, because of my previous job with prominent African American singers, I had a chance to communicate with Jesse Jackson, leaders of the Rainbow/Push Coalition and the NAACP about the paradox of the Pentagon's genocidal policies and it's use of the economic draft that siphon's African Americans into its maw as a 'jobs program.' I also help keep my college history professor informed on the neo-con's Pax Americana and she integrates it into her classes on the Roman Empire as she educates those military-age children on what is going on so they won't kill or be killed.

10. Your post attacking me was obviously heated and hasty. I gleaned nothing from it other than your vigilance against ANY suggestion that the problems we face are much larger than tomorrow's vote.

11. I hope the time I took to respond to you atleast helped clarify my vigilance against militarizing our children to kill other children.

Peace. And I mean that.

24. If we did not have a military it would be slightly
longer than a nano second before we would be taken
over by countries that do have a military. How would
you like your grandchildren to have Russian or Chinese
as their native language? It is the misuse of militarism
that is the problem, not the system itself. Our military is
too large and since furious george's takeover it is
too aggressive. Kerry will change our course toward a
more sensible and peaceful future.

25. To be clear...since you obviously refused to research the significance...
of the photo...The little boy had just donated his savings from his piggy bank to John Kerry. How dare you turn his little salute into something evil. I guess you bristle at the sight of little John Kennedy saluting his father, too.

That little boy has done more to help our party win than your naysaying and handwringing.

Find something else to criticize. The photo will stay in my sig until Kerry wins tomorrow. Deal with it.

39. YOU research the "significance of that child's salute."
I'm not the one turning it into "something evil." That is already done. I want to stop it. Your rhetoric about "naysaying and handwringing" is the kind of electric-fence-to-thought that the neocons deploy to blind us to the complexities which Kerry embraces. And saying that a toddler's piggy bank does more "to help our party win" than criticising the militarism already in our brains that has half our country supporting atrocities isn't rational. It's just lashing out.

(Since it is your photo that I responded to, I will offer the same explanation I posted for Aquart whose response was quite hostile. I think that your bringing up JFK as a toddler doing what the adults told him to do indicates that the same points I made to Aquart might be interesting to you also.)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I will try to spell out my point a little better so you might not react with such unwarranted characterizations of my words. Perhaps I should have noted that a Bush win will result in even more cultural militarization than a Kerry win. But it we are already up to our necks in it and this campaign increased it.

1.Children imitate adults and take on their implied values very early in life.

2. Militarism is indoctrinated in children so they will be tools of destruction at age 18 for a corrupt power structure that uses war as an extension of economics benefitting the rich with the blood of the poor and those who are intentionally misinformed into participating.

3. This presidential campaign has seen the continued rise in stature of those who have been physically present in this carnage with the use of sanctioning labels such as 'war hero' or 'deserter.'

4. Leadership qualities (synonymous with 'real manhood') have been defined as the willingness to kill on command from authority. And that is how we got in the mess we are in now. Believe it, brother.

31. Even if we stage fraudulent elections, it won't fool anyone.
The Iraqis will know they do not live in a democracy and the same fate will befall the puppets who are ostensibly elected.

The Americans will not be fooled (except for ignorant diehard supporters of the neocon regime) as body bags continue to fly home to Dover.

The best thing we can do is disengage in an orderly manner with the UN playing a larger and larger role until there are no more US troops remaining. Bush has destroyed any possibility of the US having any military role in rebuilding Iraq. We must get out. Kerry will make it happen and WE will help him.

36. this may fall into the wild conspiracy theory column but....
throwing it out there anyhow... About a month ago, I followed a news link off the MAIN GOOGLE NEWS page. It led to a story from an Arab news organization- I don't remember which one and I don't remember whether they were were reporting on a CIA leak or their own government info. Perhaps someone reading this will recall. The crux of the piece was this: just before our election Osama would release a new video, this would trigger two events. First, a political assasination (this Iraqi governor, maybe?), followed by a large terror attack, likely on US soil.

I don't know if that's what this is, and I know this smacks of fear mongering, but I want to put it out there and see if anyone else can put any of these pieces together.
