Eminem's angst-filled video, 'Mosh,' spread rapidly on the Internet, might
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/11/01/DDGHC9J1LJ1.DTL

Leave it to Eminem to write the instruction manual on how to start a revolution in the 21st Century.

As celebrities ranging from P. Diddy to Drew Barrymore made the rounds supporting voter registration drives and youth involvement this election season, their efforts have been easy to ridicule -- often seeming staged, patronizing or worse yet, old.

Contrast that with Eminem's genuinely angst-filled, finger-on-the-pulse "Mosh" video, which was leaked to the Internet last week and has since become another one of those spreads-like-a-virus online phenomena. Without the benefit of a publicity campaign, it could have a real effect motivating young people to get to the polls tomorrow.

"Mosh," part of Eminem's new album set for release later this month, first appeared on the Internet as an audio file two weeks ago. The 5 1/2 minute track features a slow driving beat, as the 32-year-old rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, carves President Bush apart with years of pent- up anger.

"Strap him with an AK-47/ Let him go fight his own war/ Let him impress daddy that way," he shouts. "No more blood for oil/ We got our own battles to fight on our own soil/ No more psychological warfare to trick us into thinkin' we ain't loyal."

20. THANK YOU for that link...
...I've already decided that I'm going to get to the polls an hour and a half early tomorrow and deal with the consequences. I have no idea when the line will start, but I know I will encounter one when I arrive. I don't care. I'll be standing in a line of Americans ready to take back their FUCKING country.

:toast:

Folks, pick ANYTHING you learned in school. I don't care WHAT it was. HOW monumental...you're standing in a similar moment. You've already made HISTORY by being involved here at DU. Tomorrow, YOU...the person READING THIS...will pick our next president.

I hope Silicon Valley likes this song. They're going to bearing it tomorrow on my way to the polls.

I'm on my way out to the mall, anyone have good suggestions on places that will have such an item? I hate shopping and hate walking around to like 53255325 stores to find something (god bless the internet). We have most all big name stores around here. Thanks.

17. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the video was running
in the background on the live SNL. Or some cuts like the video.

I just watched it a few minutes ago. That is the most powerful piece of film I've seen in a long time. I hope it is the final bit that drives the young out to vote. I think finally this year the artists are starting to do the stuff I saw in the 60's.

I'm a 52 yr old female, but I'm going to the polls tomorrow in my black hoodie. And I'll be buying my first Eminem CD.

This ought to be scaring the shit out of *, Rove and the freepers.

6. John Kerry Promises Young People The Truth, Talks Eminem At Campaign Stop
On Sunday, Kerry talked about defying expectation yet again — he hopes to win New Hampshire back for the Democrats (it was a red state in 2000) by hammering at President Bush's record and portraying himself as the champion of middle-class values. "I'm a strong closer" he told the crowd of thousands, many of whom brought children still dressed for Halloween trick-or-treating. But a strong close for Kerry means pulling off a Red Sox-esque upset — an analogy the senator was not beyond making himself — as final tracking polls put him behind Bush, but well within the margin of error.

With fewer than 48 hours to go, Senator Kerry talked to MTV News for the fifth time during this campaign, taking questions about how he'd rep young voters, what he'd do to catch Osama bin Laden, and the political implications of Eminem's "Mosh," a topic we'd only begun to broach when his body men whisked him away to rally his base as the seconds ticked down.

yago: Last time we talked, in March, you said that it's important to listen to hip-hop because it gives you a sense of what's going on in the street. Have you heard the new Eminem song that's been out?

Kerry: You know, I heard Eminem on "Saturday Night Live" last night. I heard the song that he did. I don't know if that's part of his new or not. I liked it. But that's the only thing that I've heard in the last weeks. I'm on the trail. I'm campaigning every day.

Yago: Last question: If you're elected, will you come on MTV as president and speak with young people again?

Kerry: I would love it. I would absolutely love it. I'd really look forward to it. The answer is absolutely. With pleasure.

The younger generation needs to be brought into the process. Great idea John, talk to the young folks - listen to their concerns. I'm 55 so my time is shorter than kids 16-30 they're the ones we need to focus on to make the world a better place.

13. I DO NOT like the tone of this article.
I am watching Andre 3000's voting film, I watched Puffy's and I watched Drew Barrymore's, they are all good and worthy efforts, you don't have to criticize one thing in order to praise something else.

Not only that, but alternative artists are out there ALL THE FUCKING TIME writing political songs and doing political art, and they can't get LABEL DEALS, and they can't get MARKETED. Mosh is a masterpiece, no doubt, but Eminem had to release tracks about raping his mother and his wife to get to get the notoriety to do what other artists like Ani DiFranco have been doing THEIR WHOLE FREAKING CAREERS with no radio play and no videos. Urrrggg, that article really got under my skin. Props to Eminem for redeeming himself, but maybe radio and video should wake the fuck up and pay attention to other worthy artists who walk their talk as a way of life.

18. Unfortunately that seems to be the fashion with these
news reviewers - they gotta trash artists.

I agree with you, that part of the article made me angry as well.

And yeah it probably wouldn't have hit the big time without Eminem's star power name.

But damn both the song and the video is brilliant. I think if this thing was shown on mainstream TV * wouldn't just be toast, he'd be burnt toast.

25. "Mosh" is nothing compared to this...
There's a song by a rapper named Immortal Technique - just heard it on KPFK. It makes Mosh look like child's play in comparison. My jaw dropped when I heard it, and it's apparently available online.

Do a search for "Immortal Technique - bin Laden".

26. HA HA! I was just about to post about him.
I have both his albums. Revolutionary Vol. 2 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the first album, which is not so great. PM me if you want a copy to listen to before buying (it's worth it).

Immortal Technique is amazingly good. I heard "Point Of No Return" almost a year ago on KPFK (Divine Forces Radio show) and got his stuff. "Cause of Death" is phenomenal, as is "The 4th Branch". He is the shiznit, yo. In da hizzle. Etc.

I also like Paris' "Bush Killa", which got banned in '92. Tinoire (WHERE ARE YOU, WE MISS YOU!) exposed me to his "What Would You Do" track, which is quite good as well.

Btw, MagicalSpork, I'd noticed you mentioned Venice in one of your posts. I'm "representin'" (as the young kids say) Walgrove/Venice.

Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 07:19 PM by rmpalmer
I love the way they use actual headlines of crap all of us know * and his neocons have pulled for the last 4 years. The darkness, the images of racism, soldier getting called back to war, woman getting eviction notice interspersed with the color images of * screwing us over. An army rising up to confront him - by voting.

It's synergy to me.

I'll check out Immortal Technique - any videos with it?

30. The video for Mosh was great.
I'm not sure about whether there's a video or not, but it'd be incredible if there was. From what I've read, Immortal Technique is relatively underground in comparison to Eminem, but the general consensus is that "Bin Laden" is the far superior song - even on Eminem-friendly message-boards like the D12 one.

Someone said, "Mosh was about uniting the masses, Bin Laden was about actually informing them" or something to that effect. Pretty accurate, if you ask me.

Nice. I downloaded and watched the video for the WTC 7 song. People are definitely aware of the inconsistencies in the official story of how 9/11 occurred, and it's slowly seeping its way into public consciousness. Fahrenheit 9/11 was the first real substantive (in terms of reach and overall impact) shaft of light to sear through the darkness, but I have a feeling that more is to come.

Thanks for the link.

46. Do this tomorrow in the hood
I drove around Sat. and Sun. my car plastered with Kerry yard signs, stickers and white shoe polish voting messages on my car windows, playing Mosh loudly as I drove slowly, getting thumbs ups, nods, peace signs, honks and waves from our African American democratic base voters and the white Kerry supporters. It was an incredible we're all part of something big type of morale booster. And the song is so militantly empowering it is a rush to f*** with the freepers as they witness the solidarity of Kerry supporters. We are a diverse party and we got each other's backs.

You can download the mp3 here:

http://www.stimulate-ltd.com/audio/singles/eminem-mosh-...

I used CDex to convert the mp3 to a WAV and then burned CDS. I gave away 58 copies. I'm also wearing my black hoodie with VOTE in duct tape on the back.

All the people up top, on the side and the middle
Come together, let's all form this swamp just a little
Just let it gradually build, from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people, some white and some black
No matter what color, all that matters we're gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather
If it rains, let it rain
Yeah, the wetter the better
They ain’t gon’ stop us - they can't
We're stronger now, more then ever
They tell us "No", we say "Yeah"
They tell us "Stop", we say "Go"
Rebel with a rebel yell
Raise hell - we gon’ let em know
Stomp, push, shove, mush..
Fuck Bush
Until they bring our troops home, c'mon, just..

Come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength
Come with me, and I wont steer you wrong
Put your faith in your trust, as I guide us through the fog
To the light at the end of the tunnel we gon’ fight
We gon’ charge, we gon’ stomp
We gon' march through the swamp
We gon' mosh through the marsh
Take us right through the doors
Come on..

Imagine it pourin’, it's rainin’ down on us
Moshpits outside the oval office
Someone’s tryin to tell us something
Maybe this is God just sayin' we're responsible
For this monster - this coward that we have empowered
This is Bin Laden
Look at his head noddin’
How could we allow something like this without pumpin' our fists
Now, this is our final hour
Let me be the voice, and your strength and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify it, times it, and multiply it by sixteen million
People are equal at this high pitch
Maybe we can reach al CIAda through my speech
Let the president answer our high anarchy
Strap him with a AK-47, let him go fight his own war
Let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil
No more psychological warfare to trick us to thinking that we ain’t loyal
If we don’t serve our own country, we’re patronizing our hero
Look in his eyes, its all lies
The stars and stripes, have been swiped
Washed out and wiped and replaced with his own face
Mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight, you’ll know why
‘Cuz I told you to fight

Come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength
Come with me, and I wont steer you wrong
Put your faith in your trust, as I guide us through the fog
To the light at the end of the tunnel we gon' fight
We gon' charge, we gon' stomp
We gon' march through the swamp
We gon' mosh through the marsh
Take us right through the doors
Come on

Eminem: And as we proceed to mosh through this desert storm.. in these closing statements, if they should argue, let us beg to differ.. as we set aside our differences, and assemble our own army to disarm this weapon of mass destruction that we call our president for the present.. and mosh for the future of our next generation.. to speak and be heard.. Mr President.. Mr Senator..

56. Eminem Vs. Bush
Last year, the US secret services investigated Eminem after he recorded a song that wished death upon Bush, while the President has referred to the rapper as the greatest threat to American children since polio.

58. I played Mosh this morning for an hour driving past minority precincts
Got lots of waves, nods, thumnbs ups.

All the people up top, on the side and the middle
Come together, let's all form this swamp just a little
Just let it gradually build, from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people, some white and some black No matter what color, all that matters we're gathered together To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather If it rains, let it rain Yeah, the wetter the better They ain’t gon’ stop us - they can't We're stronger now, more then ever They tell us "No", we say "Yeah" They tell us "Stop", we say "Go" Rebel with a rebel yell Raise hell - we gon’ let em know Stomp, push, shove, mush.. Fuck Bush Until they bring our troops home, c'mon, just..
