Kerry gets poll boost on election eve |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 08:16 PM by stupidgit
The headline figure from the nationwide poll was within the poll's statistical margin of error, meaning that the candidates are in a virtual tie. But Mr Kerry was said to enjoy a five-point advantage in 12 crucial swing states - which, if carried through to the ballot box tomorrow, could be enough to consign Mr Bush to the annals of one-term presidents.http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,11069-1340136,00.html

2. This is showing Ohio and Florida in the Kerry column--that would do it. |
|
In Florida, Gallup had Mr Kerry leading by 49 to 46 per cent, overturning an eight-point deficit in the same poll last week. Gallup said that up to 30 per cent of those questioned had already gone out and voted - and they had been supporting Mr Kerry by 51 percent to 43, allowing him to build up momentum in the Sunshine State.
The Massachusetts senator was also leading, by 50 per cent to 46 in the must-win state of Ohio, up from a one-point lead last week. No Republican has ever become president without carrying the state

If 30% have voted in Florida, and Kerry has an eight point lead, he's already won Florida. Bush would have to win the remaining votes by close to 15%!
If Gallup is saying this, though, it's based on exit polls, which means there is still the problem with unpredictable samples.

Let's see what happens when all those "unlikely" voters show up at the polls.

6. Well... cautious optimism |
|
Hoping for the best, steeling myself for the worst.
Champagne if Kerry wins.
Swearing off everything if he loses, otherwise I'll be a basketcase or dead by 2008.
Seriously, if he doesn't win, I have grave doubts about America's ability to survive as a democracy.
If he does, though... woo hoo! Faith be restored!

9. The Nader Factor........ |
|
"Ralph Nader, the leftwinger who cost Mr Gore the last election when he polled almost 3 per cent of votes nationwide, no longer seemed much of a threat. Of the 1,573 likely voters queried by Gallup, he was chosen by just nine.
