U.S. Prepares to Activate Missile Defense System
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 10:08 PM by stupidgit
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Pentagon is set to declare operational soon a multibillion dollar system intended to defend America from attack by ballistic missiles, but which critics say will not work.

"We say to those tyrants who believe they can blackmail America and the free world -- you fire, we're going to shoot it down," President Bush said in August. The Pentagon said the system would be deemed operational by year's end.

Where the ef did this come from??? And why a quote from August???

Oh, I get it...

...What's wrong is they're claiming to have real capability when none has been demonstrated, and deploying a system so early," said Philip Coyle, a former assistant secretary of defense who helped evaluate missile defense under President Bill Clinton.

"This is like deploying a new military aircraft without the wings and the tail and the landing gear."

Ah, so, they're just throwing it out now as one more thing in the "Keeping America Safe" propaganda machine

7. Rummy's comment
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld faulted that argument.

"I think there are any number of things that you benefit greatly by getting it out there, playing with it, working with it, testing it, evolving it, learning about it, showing people what it can do, learning what it can do and what it can't do," Rumsfeld said. "And that is not rush to deployment, that's a rush to learning, by my standard."

Have you noticed that Bush can't make a complete sentence and Rummy can't stop with the compound predicates!

Bush...It's hard...hard work.

Rummy: getting it, playing it, showing it, testing it, learning it

I just want all of 'em gone NOW

It doesn't matter at all to them whether it works or not. This clearly has nothing to do with defending America. Perhaps it has something to do with it being "a multibillion dollar system" that effectively extracts taxpayer dollars.

9. The greatest fraud of all time. A crime against taxpayers.
Until we as a Nation are able to stop these war profiteering corporations from STEALING our money, we are fkkked! This project HURTS national security because it provides no benefit and sucks massive amounts of tax dollars from worthwhile security needs. This is what the republicans (and some Democrats) have wrought. A government that exists, not to support the People, but to support giant corporations. DISGUSTING !

PS - there is a reason the Russians support Bush. They want us to do MORE of this dumb shit because they know it make us WEAKER !

GODAMMIT !!

17. Who's gonna shoot missiles at us??
We owe China a ton of money.. they want the cash and the continued business

N Korea is bluster, but that's about it.. They would be destroyed before the 1st missile hit SanDiego

Russia is not much more than a toothless bear these days..

The only people who really hate us are doing a bang up job with looted explosives and 16 yr olds willing to blow themselves up..

what a boondoggle :(
