Dutch Customs Find 2000 Baboon Noses
Around 2,000 baboon noses were found packed in an abandoned suitcase at Amsterdam airport when they started to stink, officials said Wednesday.

Dutch customs police made the gruesome discovery last week and turned the case over to the Agriculture Ministry's Inspection Service, which said it had several leads that may help it track down the culprits...

The noses around 66 pounds worth were en route from Lagos, Nigeria, to the United States...

2. Hey! I paid $10,000 for those noses
Set up the whole thing through an email I received from the former Minister of the Interior. Those noses are supposed to earn the two of us $26M (U.S.) or some such fabulous amount, and then we can pry loose another several million from some Swiss banks.

Gimme my noses, ya chocolate-makin' bastids!

The above post was a lame attempt at hilarity, keying off of a common spam email that most folks have probably received. gratuitous does not traffic in Nigerian baboon noses; never has, never will. Thank you for your attention to this wholly unnecessary disclaimer.

5. I rather thought that went without saying
But we live in George W. Bush's America now, where union folks applaud the fraud on Labor Day, so I suppose it needed to be said. Glad you were here to make the catch, DA.

6. What the fuck is wrong with people.
Why did someone slaughter 2000 beings for their noses? And then left them to rot in a suit case. This sickens me to my core. I have absolutely no hope for humanity. We are not natural because nature is not cruel to the point of perversion.

You and I are a cancer on the body of life. If all were to perish, it would probably be for the best. Only humans behave inhumanely.

Jeezus Christ, what have we done.

7. We slaughter millions of cows for their arses... where's the difference?
Ok, I know that baboons are protected, and this IS disgusting in that respect, but if you really think about it the only difference is that baboons are protected and rare, rather than unprotected and farmed.

You think nature is not cruel? Have you ever seen a cat play with a mouse or bird that it never had any intention of eating? Nature is every bit as cruel as we are, the only difference is that we should know better.

Did you know that chimps kill and eat small monkeys? In fact they appear to be rather a delicacy to chimps, considering the elaborate hunting efforts they go to. Chimps don't HAVE to eat monkeys, they LIKE to eat monkeys. Like I said, we are nothing special, nature is cruel, and fooling yourself to think otherwise is rather naive.

8. But, we could at least try to be better than this...
we could at least make an attempt to be better. Or do we throw up our hands and say, "what the fuck?"

12. Don't get me wrong!
I didn't mean that at all, what I was trying to get across is that one mans dead protected species is another mans medicine (I am not sure, but what else woul baboon noses be used for? It sounds like a Chinese remedy to me)

I totally agree that protected species should be exactly that, but the fact that it is a baboon (if you ignore the protected species part) is no different from us eating a cow. All I was trying to say is that this isn't some great moral crime - it IS a crime, but only because we have decided that baboons should be protected. It seems that not all people agree with us, but they are in the minority and have been voted down.

But to extend this into a condemnation of all mankind is a bit harsh - the fact that it is crime shows that mankind in general agrees with us.

The rest of my post merely served to illustrate that nature is harsh and to act like we are more cruel than nature is absurd. Nature never worried about animals going extinct, as is proved by the fact that they were going extinct long before we ever showed up.

The nature shows love to highlight the good sides of nature, but they rarely point to the cruel aspects of it, such as killer whales using baby seals as toys before killing them, or cats doing the same thing to mice or birds.

Someone who truly values nature has to admit that nature is cruel, and thus while we do the best that we can not to make it any worse than it already is, expecting us to defeat nature itself is unnatural.

Of course, this doesn;t mean I support the killing of baboons, merely that we mustn't fool ourselves. Nature is harsh, and sometimes we can be too, no matter how hard we try.

14. Wolf's nipple chips, get 'em while they're hot they're lovely!
Another example of life imitating Monty Python (the other being the guy shooting dead someone armed with a tomato).

These things used to only happen in comedies, but now it seems that life itself is a big joke, and a bad joke at that.

This crime sickens me........but BTW - they were en route to the US? Is there a big market for "bush meat" over there? (No pun intended, the trade in monkey + other endangered meat is known as "bush meat" in the UK, where we keep intercepting all kinds of shit).
