Bush friends Putin and Berlusconi together on US election night

33 minutes ago World - AFP

MOSCOW (AFP) - Russian President Vladimir Putin (news - web sites) and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, allies and backers of President George W. Bush (news - web sites), huddled together at Putin's dacha, expected to watch the US election.

Berlusconi arrived earlier for an official Russian-Italian summit set for Wednesday with the focus on the struggle against international "terrorism," and Iraq (news - web sites) and the Middle East.

Putin received his guest at his private residence at Novo-Ogarevo, in forests 15 kilometres (nine miles) from Moscow, for an informal evening gathering ahead of the official talks.

A source close to the Kremlin said the two men would take a look at US election reports during dinner.

4. wait a minute
what is the time difference? 8 hours?

There will not be any results until the early morning hours - certainly none "during dinner"

5. Scare tactic while bush is in corner
I interpret this to be a show of force to demonstrate that these two will decide on a strategy based on the outcome of the election to take. Also a power play against bush, but at this point bush is helpless to do anything but watch...

6. There's a few things wrong with this story
One, time difference. Moscow is 8 hours ahead...when it's midnight there, it's 4pm here...so not sure what they will be watching during dinner.

And 2, while Putin and Bush get along, to call him ally and backer...Russia never supported the war in Iraq, so what ally?

7. Putin wants geedubya to get re-elected 'cause he wants to see U.S.
go bankrupt, like what we did to Russia in Afghanistan. He's a weasel, and he's sitting there licking his lips if dubya gets back in. Hell, dubya's already bankrupted us; just a few more hits on the dollar, and we're Argentina Toast!

:kick:
