Bush Philosophical at End of Campaign
By SCOTT LINDLAW
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush was all smiles but no swagger as he finished the campaign he said would be his last, a marathon that seemed a sure thing after the Sept. 11 attacks but ended up a likely photo finish.

He voted one last time for himself in his tiny Central Texas hometown of Crawford, made a quick stop in Ohio to pump up get-out-the-vote troops and was welcomed back to the White House by hundreds of flag-waving, cheering staffers - and his dog.

Tuesday night, alongside family and top aides in the White House residence, the 43rd president monitored the voters' verdict on whether he would get a second term, a plum coveted all the more as it was denied his father, the 41st.

"We campaigned as hard as we possibly could," Bush said at his campaign headquarters in Columbus.

This looks like the AP is talking about a defeated President...Do they know something we don't??

1. They know the polls are mobbed
and that historically, this is bad news for an incumbent.

It remains to be seen whether we're madder or they're scareder. I think it is probably the former, but I'm not making any predictions.

7. Dear Mr. Bush

Get this through your thick skull.

HOW you campaigned had nothing to do with it. You sir, were basically DOA when this thing started. All we needed to do was get our man on the dance card and fend off your patsies like the SwiftBoatVeterans.

Sir, you are probably a fun guy to hang around with at a bar-b-que, but you have failed this nation. You have taken billions of surplus and turned it into debt, you have taken a 90%+ approval rating and divided this nation, you have alienated the entire world at a time we have to work with those people, you have stood up for the powerful, the corrupt and the connected. Under your watch sir, over 1000 men and women who defend our nation have died defending well we don’t know; you lied us into war and now death permeates the entire globe. You have waged war on the environment, gay Americans, and anyone and anything that counters your ideology of exploitation, fear, and greed. You have used God to advance a most UN-God agenda and YOU SIR (and your policies and the cronies who do your bidding) will soon be repudiated by the one force, the one thing, the one movement that can topple the most connected of selected oligarchs – THE PEOPLE.

Good day Mr. Bush. Now get the fuck out of our White House.

8. Okay, I read the whole thing. Philosophical? Who is Scott Lindlaw?
Christ, a bunch of inane cliches strong together does not make one philosophical. Is this Bush's lover or something, all sympathetic and sensitive to his feelings? Pathetic title, pathetic story. The only part I like is that Bush sounds defeated.

And you ask if they know something we don't? Of course they do, they know how bogus their polls are! When pollsters are assuming a higher Republican than Democrat turnout, and those polls show an even race, then on election day when they see Democratic districts flooding the polls, they know their polls are wrong. They knew that from the start, they just wanted to keep people watching them.

9. Retirement is too damn good for him....
With all the blood, with all the problems over the past four years, the idea of him retiring in luxury while still getting paid to sit on various boards or making a speech every now and then really pisses me off. Families have been destroyed because of this man.

They say when a man knows he's going to die, it focuses his mind.

My guess is that shrub is experiencing the electoral equivelant of that.

19. A few less swaggers over the last 4 years and he might still have a job
He was also quoted a few times this morning as saying "I gave it everything I had." Then, while Kerry was still campaigning HARD and working the GOTV route, Bush...just...went...HOME. Yep, like a GUY WHO GAVE UP.

It seems to be the one-two punch: unless folks were a member of Bush's "base," they got sick of the job performance and sick of the smirk.

"Some people say I have a certain swagger...in Texas, we call it walking"...

Good one, George. Now walk home.

the status quo. You should have run the country as if you were going to have to live in the worst of it, not piss in it like the neighbor's pool.
