Firefight in Tikrit as Mortars Fired at U.S. Base
Mortar bombs were fired at the U.S. military base in Saddam Hussein's home town of Tikrit Wednesday and U.S. troops surged out in Humvees and armored vehicles to repel the attackers, Reuters witnesses said.

There were no immediate reports of American casualties in the firefight which lasted around 15 minutes but U.S. forces said they thought at least one Iraqi was killed.

"That was beautiful, best firefight I've ever seen," said Sgt. Gilbert Nail, from Oklahoma.

No doubt it is exhilarating to be a survivor, but I whatever Sgt. Nail popped before that action, I want some too!

7. Ecstasy and Adrenalin I think maybe
The first would make you appreciate that flashes, the second would have a lot of folks blabbering their mouths off.

15. adrenaline. I wouldn't hold it against him.
If you've ever been in a near-death situation, anything you say immediately thereafter can't be held against you.

I was in one once, and it took a week or two to get back to normal.

9. Hey give the guy a break he was probably talking about....
the operation. The speedy reaction time and effectiveness.

It sounds strange to us here but I am sure that is what he meant. Good, no US casualties in this one.

I swear I was thinking just the other day about the fact that there had been no mortars fired yet, we will probably see more of this unfortuneately.

12. Yes, resistance organizes as CBO says half the US forces gotta go
home by next spring. If 150K is facing this, I imagine that 60K of forces will be huddled up in fire-bases and listening posts taking rockets and mortars every evening ...not unlike memories of that little country in southeast asia.

10. The other day I heard a radio interview on a popular Orlando
radio station with a Pvt. who just returned from Iraq. When asked about killing people in combat he said that he had and discribed it as "pretty fun". He also told how he threw a hand gernade at a group of camels standing by the roadside and killed one of them just for the hell of it. We have turned loose a bunch of psychos in Iraq.

Look for more of them on Saturday night/Sunday morning, whatever. Thou shalt not kill is just ignored until it becomes politically expedient.

On edit. Meant this to be a response to #10 above. Sorry.

18. Why do I picture the Calvary locked..........
inside the fort waiting to be attacked and when they are attacked the big wooden gates open and the calvary comes rushing out. Doesn't this mean that evn the areas around our "Forts" are not secure?
