Bank Of America Lays Off 200 (Wichita, KS - Refi, Mortgage Collapsing)
More than 200 Bank of America employees received layoff notices Wednesday.

About 230 workers in the mortgage loan fulfillment center at 901 George Washington Blvd. will join another 90 or so employees who were laid off in June. The center handles new consumer mortgages and refinancing.

"As we had talked about earlier in the summer, it's really a result of... consumer demand for mortgages across the industry dropping," said spokeswoman Julie Davis, who is based in Atlanta.

EDIT

She said year-to-date mortgage originations for the bank are $69.2 billion. Last year was a record year at $131 billion."

EDIT

Well, manufacturing - one leg. Housing bubble & refinancing - two legs. What's holding up the stool?

12. I agree...they can always enlist in the military if they need a job
middle class republicans voting for Bush is like an abused spouse bailng the abuser out of jail.

I will enjoy watching the many ways in which Bush screws the very people who voted for him. Of course, as long as gays can't marry, abortion is illegal, and guns are God's gift to Americans, these people will smile all the way to the bread lines.

Ha Ha.

20. A lot of us Democrats happen to live in red states
And gave our all to defeat Bush. In my case, I live in Ohio, worked for the campaign, donated money, attended rallies. Many, many good people in Ohio. Some volunteering full-time because their jobs were already gone. Please don't cheer if I'm next. We tried our best.

29. Hey, I'm in Texas and I have no sympathy
I worked my ass off and gave money I could not afford because I wanted him out. That the day *after* the election these other red state people got what they refused to see is simply reality coming home.

Hell, I know someone bankrupted by Enron in Houston who voted for Bush*---I'll save my pity for you and me friend. Those who worked hard to defeat Bush* but, on a megascale? I'm not heartbroken if next layoff is in Dallas. Not one friggin bit.

24. Not to be a dick...BUT...
when we hear about upcoming lay-offs...we should get people on the ground to greet them as they are leaving the building for the last time.

"Did you just get laid-off?"

"You did? I'm so sorry...who did you vote for?"

"Kerry?...I'm so sorry. Here's my number...lets see if we can't get you a job using the power of DU."

or

"Bush?...Well...here ya go...the military is hiring...here are the enlistment papers."

28. Nah, that's not being a "dick" that's being helpful
its the truth after all, why should I comfort them when:

my sister is totally disabled and facing health services cuts
my son is gay
my best childhood friend desperately hoped stem cell research would give her relief from Parkinson's or give it to someone else up the line
my son's best high school friend is in Iraq --- and forced out of college after discharge and being placed on IRR. Oh, and his wife is in danger of losing their house.

And, someone here is going to want me to be sympathetic to Bush* voters? Not me, I'll help Kerry voters though---whenever I can.

30. What's the Matter with Kansas - Read this book
if you want an understanding of the morans who vote against their own economic and health issues in the Red States. Maybe some day like Thomas Frank the idiots there will wake up!

What's the Matter with Kansas?: How Conservatives Won the Heart of America

The largely blue collar citizens of Kansas can be counted upon to be a "red" state in any election, voting solidly Republican and possessing a deep animosity toward the left. This, according to author Thomas Frank, is a pretty self-defeating phenomenon, given that the policies of the Republican Party benefit the wealthy and powerful at the great expense of the average worker. According to Frank, the conservative establishment has tricked Kansans, playing up the emotional touchstones of conservatism and perpetuating a sense of a vast liberal empire out to crush traditional values while barely ever discussing the Republicans' actual economic policies and what they mean to the working class. Thus the pro-life Kansas factory worker who listens to Rush Limbaugh will repeatedly vote for the party that is less likely to protect his safety, less likely to protect his job, and less likely to benefit him economically. To much of America, Kansas is an abstract, "where Dorothy wants to return. Where Superman grew up." But Frank, a native Kansan, separates reality from myth in What's the Matter with Kansas and tells the state's socio-political history from its early days as a hotbed of leftist activism to a state so entrenched in conservatism that the only political division remaining is between the moderate and more-extreme right wings of the same party. Frank, the founding editor of The Baffler and a contributor to Harper's and The Nation, knows the state and its people. He even includes his own history as a young conservative idealist turned disenchanted college Republican, and his first-hand experience, combined with a sharp wit and thorough reasoning, makes his book more credible than the elites of either the left and right who claim to understand Kansas. --John Moe

31. Mortgage companies have been outsourcing loan processing for months
My daughter works with lenders and has had some frustrating chats with people in India trying to convince her they are in the US. She said it is a dead give away if they call Tucson when they are looking to speak to someone somewhere in TEXAS. LOL

So the lenders are having trouble cuz nobody is buying houses?!? Poor babies. Maybe they shouldn't have sent the work overseas and laid off their own clients, the dumb, greedy bastards!
