Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 10:51 AM by PaDUer
and kept it to herself so she wouldn't upset her husband and the rest of the camp until the end of the speech. I wish Elizabeth the best, and I wish I had an address to send her something, or can we collect some $ to send her some flowers to let her know that we love her and wish everything is ok and a speedy recovery..

-edit-
I know Elizabeth reads DU, and there's one thing I ask of her, and it's NOT to get breast implants because the plastic surgeons are still lying to the people about silicone and the saline implants still have a silicone shell. Just remember, the big CORPORATIONS have paid off the companies that manufactured them and also built them big labs and gave them a LOT of $..Also, these companies, and DOW included, have NEVER conducted any tests on one woman, never! Plus, there's thousands of women out there who are ill and don't realize it, and think the problems they might be having are from them aging, just as I did. I honestly hope that Elizabeth reads this post and sends me a message so I can give her the info related to this.

33. Bullshit!
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 01:01 PM by Ripley
Just because asshole and wifey are still squatting in the White House does not mean you should outwardly wish CANCER on Laura. Think it, dream it, pray for it ... I don't care, because I won't know. But for someone to actually post that is pretty low.

Wish you speedy recovery and good health Elizabeth!

PS: How would you feel if you went to Freepville and they were gloating and high-fiving because Edward's wife has breast cancer?

63. Since you ended with a question, I'll waste my time and respond.
First, I wouldn't go to Freeperville. Second, if I did go to Freeperville (which I wouldn't), I wouldn't high five or gloat over anyone's sickness. If they did, that is their problem.

I don't think that some of these reactions are about Elizabeth Edwards (or an imaginary sickness of Laura Bush, for that matter). I think people are reacting angrily because they are profoundly astonished that their nation has been hijacked a second time, that they are going to have to somehow endure four more years of it, and that their political party has been decimated and is offering no real answers or solutions.

Send an alert if the post is a violation of the guidelines. But also understand what is going on for many people who post here.

See, I'm an idiot newbie with only 6000 posts and I don't know that or experience that myself. :eyes:

That is no reason for wishing Laura had cancer instead of Elizabeth.

Oh and I forgot to add...sorry I forced you to "waste your time" by reading my reply and then typing a response. I'm awfully sorry, I promise not to do it to you again.

119. I know a lot of them, and so many remind me of what Jesus said about
wolves in sheep's clothing. They make me ashamed, and they should be ashamed, but I guess they are beyond that. Well, the fundies are about to get what they've wished for. I hope they can handle it. I just foresee many battles on the horizon: "Prayer in school, yes! But which prayer? Well, now, wait a minute...I want mine. No, I want mine! No, mine!" And off they'll go. Could be kinda fun to watch, come to think of it. Now off I go--bad person that I am!

121. So how will they feel when they face misfortune, then?
Helen Thomas was correct, unfortunately. She said dark times would be ahead if bush won. He did, and they've arrived. Isn't it just like bush to bring the worst out in people?

125. So many of them think they are above misfortune
It won't happen to them because of their faith. If you have enough faith, in their opinion, God will only bless you with money and good health. Thanks for sharing what Helen Thomas said--I hadn't heard that. I greatly fear she is right--dark times are indeed befalling us, and quickly. Sad to say, Bush seems to bring out the worst in me, but I'm trying to be a better person and not sink to his and his crowd's level. Pretty tough, though, right about now!

We've all got to hang in there and stick together!

Elizabeth Edwards diagnosed with breast cancer.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards, was diagnosed with breast cancer the day her husband and Sen. John Kerry conceded the presidential race.

Spokesman David Ginsberg said Mrs. Edwards, 55, discovered a lump in her right breast while on a campaign trip last week. Her family doctor told her Friday that it appeared to be cancerous and advised her to see a specialist when she could.

She put off the appointment until Wednesday so as to not miss campaign time. Mrs. Edwards had a needle biopsy performed at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where Dr. Barbara Smith confirmed the cancer, Ginsberg said.

40. The difference that Health insurance makes....
My sister-in-law found a lump in August. She had to wait 4 weeks for a Mammogram. She finally had that done in late September. The radiologist came right out and told her it looked like cancer. They scheduled her for a biopsy.

It was done on election day.

What a difference health insurance makes....

I'm praying for Mrs. Edwards

65. I know that, I'm just pointing out the irony, if you will
that linking health insurance to employment is a complete crock.

that trying to get a new insurance policy once a family member has had cancer is nearly impossible.

yes, they are lucky that they can afford any care that they need, but most of us cannot.

employment=insurance has got to end.

57. I'm sure John is okay with insurance
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 01:46 PM by rmpalmer
He at least has the money if he has to can keep up the payments. I'd bet the Congress has made sure they are covered upon being retired. (And this is no knock on John since it would've been done by both parties in the congress esp the Repubs).

I'm stunned. She is such a lovely woman!

My prayers and thoughts are with her. I hope they caught it early. I feel so bad today for her, John and for their children!

Elizabeth, get well. I hope someone gets something together that we can send to her to let her know we all give her a big group hug and prayers.

I didn't cry Tuesday, but I'm crying now because I felt I got to know this very good woman and her fantastic family. And they have already endured too much with the death of their son Wade.

I just sent an email to Senator Edwards office telling them my prayers are with them.

I hope it was caught early.

My mother had a stage two tumor removed and suffered through the chemo and radiation after. If it is caught early enough Mrs. Edwards should be okay. Mom is a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed in 1999 and has been clean since then.

I will keep the Edwards family in my thoughts and prayers.

Cancer taught me to never lose hope and here's why: 4 years ago I had a 15% chance of 5-year survival. Today I look and feel great! Besides beating the odds, I've found lots of little blessings along the way that I probably would have overlooked had I been healthy.

My love to you and your family. We all pray for a speedy recovery.

111. Would they really throw the whole country under the bus
make that the whole world, over one woman's cancer?

Mrs. Edwards having cancer is sad. But, so are the inevitable tens of thousands of deaths, American and otherwise, in Iraq, Iran, the Grand Duchy of Fenwick :-) , and everyplace else we invade now that the PNAC wrecking crew has free reign.

If, as you suggest, our last shred of hope to stop the war machine disappeared because of one case of cancer...

...words fail me.

107. What they don't tell you about survival rates
My mother died of breast cancer in January, and over the past several years as she dealt with with, I've educated myself as much as possible.

While 5 year survival may be significant to a woman in her 70's, how much does it really mean for a woman like Elizabeth, who's only 55, with young children. 10 year survival for women over 50 with cancer that has not spread to their lymph nodes is only 67% (69% with chemo). If it's spread to her lymph nodes, 10 year survival is 46% (49% with chemo).

First Melissa Etheridge, now Elizabeth Edwards. One in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. Boy, does this stink.

135. This is what made me cry.
I've been simply bitter and angry about the election and trying to channel the anger into action. Hearing that this wonderful woman has breast cancer finally set the tears rolling.

It makes me sick to think that people are gloating over this. Is there no decency left?

We'd all better start with the cards and letters and e-mails. I want her to pull through this.

And whoever said E.E. was classy had it just right.
