US forces renew strikes against Fallujah: al-Jazeera
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 06:34 PM by everythingsxen
BAGHDAD, Nov. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- US forces launched fresh air strike on besieged Iraqi city of Fallujah Thursday evening, Doha-based al-Jazeera satellite channel reported.

The US warplanes heavily struck the eastern parts of the insurgents-held city, said al-Jazeera, adding the forces also
closed down the highway linking Fallujah with the capital.

Eyewitnesses said iron bars were taken to the area for blocking the road, a move is meant to avoid targeting US troops and Iraqi National Guard members down that road.

Can you believe this? We are actually going to invade, with ground troops, a city of over 300,000?

It's insane. Sun-Tzu would be very disappointed.

Edit : added link. Oooops. :D

2. They're bombing to make the population flee.
There won't be 300,000 when they invade. That's the 'beauty' of all this bombing.

US forces have stepped up pressure on Iraqi fighters in Falluja, using AC-130 aircraft and tanks to pound eastern and northwestern areas of the town.

Witnesses said AC-130s - cargo aircraft equipped with cannon and machine guns - were in action for at least half an hour late on Wednesday while tanks shelled the town on the ground.

The bombardment was said to be the heaviest on the town for several weeks.

The US military is poised for an offensive on Falluja, some 50km west of Baghdad, to flush out armed men resisting its forces.

6. At least it isn't the 1960s
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 06:48 PM by Selatius
If this was 1964 instead of 2004, we'd be carpet bombing. Still, smart bombs can't distinguish between resistance fighters and innocents that are in the wrong place at the wrong time...in the wrong war. All those innocents that do survive are going to mourn the loss of loved ones, and, I fear, some will pick up a gun and seek revenge.
