Report Details Guantanamo Abuses

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba - A female interrogator ran her fingers through a prisoner's hair and sat in his lap, a barber gave reverse mohawks and a detainee was forced to kneel so many times he was bruised, the U.S. government says in the most detailed accounting of eight abuse cases at its Guantanamo Bay prison for terror suspects.


Those responsible for the abuse have been demoted, reprimanded or sent for more training, according to an 800-word U.S. military response to a written query from The Associated Press.


Allegations of mistreatment at Guantanamo, where 550 terror suspects have been held for nearly three years, surfaced after the abuse scandal broke last year at the U.S.-run Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq (news - web sites), where pictures showed beatings and sexual humiliation of Iraqi prisoners.


The details of abuse at Guantanamo come as lawyers for several prisoners challenge evidence presented by the government, saying some could have been obtained by force.

4. If the abuse is proven,

can the UN pass a sanction against us? Even though we aren't a part of the World Court, it would seem to me that the rest of the world could express its disgust in some way.

5. Oh but wasn't the General in Charge of this just given a promotion?

Or was that another General who was in charge when bad things happened that got the promotions -- I just can't keep all the promotions of the people in charge of bad things who get promotions straight in my mind.

Nobody in command gets fired -- but the little guys who have to follow orders (chain of command and all) sure aren't promoted -- IF caught then they are demoted, jailed or given a discharge from the army (or whatever) and the civilians moved out and the contractor is rewarded with a new contract.
