SBC Michigan to lay off 500 workers

LANSING -- SBC Communications Inc. could lay off as many as 1,000 Michigan workers over the next few years as the telecommunications giant consolidates its regional customer service operations, a spokesman said Thursday.

The San Antonio-based company plans to lay off 500 workers over the next two years and another 500 workers could lose their jobs after that, SBC spokesman Matt Resch said.

2. Damn.
Michigan didn't deserve this.
