Bush Could Never Have Won Without Religious Vote
According to this report, Bush never could have won if they hadn't played to the Religious Reich.

<snip>

President Bush's victory, the approval of every anti-gay marriage amendment on statewide ballots and an emphasis on ``moral values'' among voters showed the power of churchgoing Americans in this election and threw the nation's religious divide into stark relief.

``The churchgoers, those who voted along cultural lines, put (Bush) over the top,'' said George Marlin, author of ``The American Catholic Voter.''

Nurtured and fed on a daily basis for the past umpteen years by Rush Limbaugh. He is the first newscaster that we should go after with sponsor boycotts.

7. Hmmm...
Yes, thats right:

"How about looking at the fact that the rednecks would never vote
for a Yankee like Kerry? These redneck fundie crackers are still fighting the god damn civil war."

and

"Bush Could Have Never Won Without the Racist Vote"

Whoo, boy, THAT'S likely to get them to vote (D) next time. Boy, I'm sure glad we're the party or diversity, love and tolerance. I'd hate to hear the comments here if we were'nt.

Look, call me a troll, or flame me, but c'mon! Couldn't it be true that religious voters put him over, like the article says? And does denigrating them like this (racist, cracker, redneck) do ANYTHING to persuade them to vote Dem in 08?

13. How about a new rule? Don't call those assholes the 'christian'right. . .
. . .There is little or nothing Christian in their evil life denying agenda. I am a practicing 'go to church every Sunday' Episcopalian. I'm not bragging, but pointing out one of the supposed signatures of a Bush voter/right winger. I don't think those folks are reading the same Bible, OR they haven't gotten to the New Testament yet. There is NOTHING about the Bush/Pat Robertson/religious right program that has any resemblance to the teachings of Jesus. Not only verbal teachings but his teaching by example. For instance, there is NOT ONE reference to homosexuality in the Gospels, but hundreds having to do with feeding the hungry, visiting prisoners, clothing the naked, and generally comforting the poor. I could fill pages with the differences between the reality of the Gospel, and the distortions of the right which have little or nothing to do with religion, but rather a political agenda. PLEASE!!! Stop calling them CHRISTIAN, but rather fascist, or nazi or whatever suits you. . .

17. The hypocrisy.
Since the New Testament tells us to judge not, I cannot call those who call themselves Christians and voted for George Bush fascist, Nazi or even hypocrites. Not everyone who says, "Lord Lord", comes of the father. The good name of Christianity has been besmirched by Inquisitions, witch-hunts and other abhorrent activities by the self-righteous. Anyone who goes to church regularly can see how may hypocrites there are.

Do they really think all the liberals are atheists?

14. There's a lot of things Bush couldn't have won without
But he knew who he needed to win so he played to them. Let's be serious here. This is like saying "Kerry couldn't have won without the minority vote". True, but of course Kerry is going to support the minority agenda and try to bring out their vote is much as he can. That's politics. You find your party, then you try to get out the vote of the people who support your party.

He lectured how this country's morals are deteriorating. I reminded him about how his 10 year old daughter showed me his stash of porn videos.

Hypocrite anyone?

21. Fundies were only 23% of US voters
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 03:23 PM by camero
And 78% of those voters voted for Bush. So where's the rest of the asswipes who voted for him? They aren't in the exit polls that's for sure.

It's only more evidence that the election was a sham and they are pressing forward with their theocracy plans.

23. What I don't get...
...how a vote for Bush can be a vote for "morality".

I have an older friend, a lifelong Republican. I had him convinced to vote for Kerry. I pointed out the long term consequences a vote for Bush would have on his grandchildren (everything from the dismantling of social security, to a desolated ecosphere). He confessed that he backtracked and voted for Bush. He offered an explanation. He said he was against abortion and against gay-marriage, it was a moral vote, and (he added) Kerry failed to show him why he should vote for him.

I asked him, how could a vote for Bush be a vote for morality? Bush lied us into a war that so far has killed over 1,100 of our troops and maimed 10,000 more. And it has resulted in the deaths of perhaps 100,000+ Iraqi men, women, and children. And for what? We were told because Saddam had his hands on the trigger (45 minutes) of some of the world's most dangerous weapons of mass destruction; we were led to believe that Saddam was in cahoots with OBL (who still walks free) on 9-11; we we're told about yellow cake, unmanned drones that could spread anthrax over Kansas -- they lied and people died!!! A vote for these people is a "vote for morality"?!

My friend's answer? Silence.

How ignorant and intentionally unconscious can we as a people be?
