Conservatives Win, Moderates Lose in 2004 (AP/ABC)
Could this be the article Free2BeMe was referring to in the earlier thread here? As referenced by Randi Rhodes, was said to be an ABC article saying that "It did not take 24 hours before there were rumblings among moderates in the Republican party"? I was trying to find the link. Not sure if this is it.

Conservatives Win, Moderates Lose in 2004

Red States, Moral Values Among Election Winners; Blue States, Diplomacy Among Election Losers

WASHINGTON Nov 4, 2004 — You're not alone, Sen. John Kerry. Diplomacy, nuance and your adviser Bob Shrum were also Election Day losers.

And don't get too puffy-chested, Mr. President. Values, exurbs and your political aide Karl Rove had winning nights that rival yours. In addition to the 59.3 million happy Bush voters and 55.7 million grim Kerry voters, it's a full roster of winners and losers.

Winner: Fear, a powerful motivator and Bush's main weapon. With more than 1,100 dead in Iraq and millions unemployed at home, many Americans wanted a new direction. Bush made them afraid of change, warning of terrorist strikes and Kerry's ability to command.

More below...Warning, I found some of this very distasteful with its "Winner: ... Loser:" business.

1. I can tell you from my observations yesterday and today...

that moderate Republicans are very concerned.

I was locked out of DU yesterday and spent a lot of time reading messages on a mixed forum. Many Republicans have been in denial about the huge evangical base in the GOP. Some still are in denial. Others seem unusually glum about Bush's victory.

Whether they like it or not, and whether they want to admit it or not, this is the new face of the Republican party:

2. This is it. It seems this is how we begin our win for 2006 and 2008.
Turn this win into a defeat for the Republican party by making it seems as if it was a win by the far right. Demonize the far right the way the far left was.

Thoughts?

3. That's going to be the core theme, let them ruin their own image
and make sure to point it out.

4. I've got one for you.
My favorite line from "White Men Can't Jump"

"Sometimes when you win, you really lose. Sometimes when you lose, you really win. And sometimes you just break even."

Rosie Perez.
