(B'ham, AL) More layoffs at Endicott Interconnect Technologies (185 jobs)
http://www.wstm.com/Global/story.asp?S=2526850

ENDICOTT, N.Y. A Binghamton-area electronics manufacturing company today cut about five percent of its workforce.

Endicott Interconnect Technologies dismissed 85 full-time employees and about 100 temporary workers.Lee Conrad -- an organizer with Alliance at I-B-M -- told Binghamton radio station W-N-B-F that rumors about the job cuts had been circulating for the past week. The union organizer questioned the timing of the latest cuts, coming three days after Election Day.

yes, I know that 100 of these jobs are "temporary" - but they count these "temporary" jobs when they make the "jobs created" reports - so just understand that now these "temporary" workers are unemployed also.

11. Just got back from Binghamton, NY......
My son lives there. Many, many very anti-Bush signs. Mostly pro-Kerry people. This area is hurting badly because of IBM's leaving. It is very economically depressed. However, you get out into the rural areas and the Bush/Cheney signs are everywhere. You'll see a rundown shack with a tarp over the leak in the roof - the kind of place I wouldn't let my dog live in - and they've got a Bush/Cheney sign in the front yard. Go figure.

13. Maybe4 they'll vote Democratic next time.
Canton did after Timken folded. Remember that story? Bush went to the Timken factory in Canton and congratulated the workers on their wonderful work. Not too long after that, Timken announced massive layoffs. I heard someone say that Canton was a bellweather city in Ohio. Well, when I looked at the numbers on Tuesday night (Pacific time), Canton was blue, although Ohio was not.

California has been hit hard by job losses, and getting people to vote and volunteer for Democrats was a piece of cake.
