Voting Group Finds Irregularities in South |
|
"ATLANTA (AP) - A national voting rights group says it documented hundreds of voting irregularities affecting poor and minority voters in seven Southern states - from long lines and faulty equipment to deliberate voter intimidation. right here in Michigan. Extremely long lines (two hours+) in urban precincts. Voter intimidation in minority and college student precincts. We were able to defeat these tactics because we had about a jillion lawyers working for free, but it was a constant battle all day. Carried our county by 4000 votes and had one city precinct go FOR KERRY 882-40!!

We had ballots where you fill in the ovals with a black pen and there were tables set up where you could just take a seat anywhere and fill out your ballot. Waited only 20 minutes. Where are you located? I'm in Macomb County.

12. VT had those ballots too. We were in and out in 5 minutes. |
|
VT was the first state to go to Kerry. Why can't everyone have those ballots? I think long lines and hours of waiting are a form of intimidation. I wonder why we don't hear more complaints about this.

suburban and township precincts had conditions as you described.
City precincts had super long lines. We had one precinct that was insisting that minority voters show their voter registration card before they could vote. We sent LABOR to encourage the voters to stay and followed with lawyers to make the poll workers aware of the law and that we knew they were cheating.
Also had a precinct that told voters they had to use a SPECIAL PEN to fill in the ovals on the ballot. Amazingly those pens were in short supply.
As to the long lines- the main problem was not the ballot but the POLL BOOK. There would invariably be ONE elderly person responsible for finding the voters name in the book. We spent the day demanding that the clerk force all precincts to SPLIT the poll book into at least two parts so that the lines could be processed faster. We eventually succeeded but it took until mid-afternoon.

Let the flood waters rise and wash bush away.
Keep the faith. Kerry's concession meant nothing legally. Remember what Edwards said, every vote will be counted.

I think you may be right. I think the absolute silence from major campaign people is very close to proof. I have heard rumours (not just on DU) that there is a terrific fight going on in back rooms. You never get details.
They must know the mood of the solid base and if they wanted surrender we would be hearing that in unmistakeable terms. So far all we get are vague responses. They could be rallying and consoloing the troops but that is not happening.
As painful as this is my gut feeling is this is not over. Also, this is not just a partisan fight, the Republic is in the balance.
Maybe this is Seven Days in November.

4. People should not have to wait longer than 10 minutes to vote. |
|
It's ludicrous that in this wealthiest nation it should be otherwise. I've never had to wait in California for any time at all.

6. As long as I live, I will NEVER believe N.C. elected bush... |

Not this time! And I also don't believe we elected Burr (as opposed to Bowles, for Senate).
There's trouble everywhere the pukes get a chance to gerrymander.

7. Preferential access to polls in town of Falwell |
|
Lynchburg VA (Jerry Falwell's city) had, relative to ALL other precincts in VA an excess of units in numerous voting stations.
I tried to get the exact numbers before posting here, but the VA Elections Board site won't provide that now, though it did before the election.
I voted where there seemed to be more units than voters.

10. and here in CA I still don't believe we elected Ahnold |
|
Last I heard there were 900,000 votes missing, and he won by about the same number.
WTF?
It was like this, everybody just accepted it, shrugged their shoulders, and moved on.
It's wrong.

Why can't we come up with a cross-the-board way to vote and be assured that it's accurate?

9. One advantage for me being a liberal in a red state is that voting |
|
is not a problem. I live in a very wealthy republican enclave. The guards at the gate allow the polling machine truck to come in and go house to house. The polling machine truck has to use the workers entrance but that's about all. My neighbors are all republican but they hate him for what he's done to their portfolios.
