Christians See Court Appointments as Top Bush Aim
*snip*

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Christian conservative leaders say their top priority in President Bush's second term is the appointment of conservative judges to the Supreme Court and throughout the judicial system.

"We have high hopes of changing the judiciary. Every judicial appointment that President Bush makes will make the courts less radical and more in tune with the voters who turned out in Tuesday's election," said Gary Bauer (news - web sites), a prominent Christian conservative leader and president of American Values, a conservative pressure group.

1. RADICAL Christians are salivating - Liberal Christians outnumber
RADICALS by a wide margin, according to George Lakoff. They are not organized and have no spokespeople so the Radical Christian machine is what we get the hear about.

Let's call a duck a duck. They are Radicals - Radical Christians who deviate greatly from core American values and are trying to change our Constitution to fit their Radical agenda.

18. so we should assume they will steal the midterms to get their 60
seats to overthrow Roe.

I don't see anyway around it, in two years without open and fair elections they will have the court.

3. Like a judge is gonna do anything but interpret the constitution anyway
What is wrong with these people anyway? Isn't the constitution good enough for them? They're gonna be surprised when, as usually happens, the more a judge is put into a position of setting the standards for the country, the more they realize they have to follow the constitution carefully and put any of their pre-existing prejudices aside. 'Course Congress has to try to keep the real nut-jobs out of there. Perhaps the lopsided one-party state will cause people to smarten up over time and go back to the two-party system!

19. That Will Only Energize Them Further
They won't settle for overturning Roe. If they get the court they
really want, it will ban abortion outright, as well as the most
effective forms of birth control. All of this would take a
Consitutional amendment to undo.

Once they've made gay marriage illegal, they'll put back all the sodomy laws and start putting gays in prison.
Of course, what the Gary Bauer types really want for them is stoning.

They won't self-destruct, but it looks like we might.

32. I heard a caller on the Ed Schultz show say
Let's force their hand (e.g., a Dem senator introduce a bill), and then the Repugs will back off, because they need to dangle the abortion issue, but not make it illegal. Otherwise they have nothing to dangle in front of the sheep anymore.

It makes me nervous though... A lot of women could die in the process if things backfire

11. They have control of California
He also said the ruling would be disheartening for many in the gay community -- which has been disproportionately targeted by such laws -- because rulings such as Reed came down at a time of growing awareness that good people were facing lifetime humiliation for minor offenses.

McMahon noted the 1998 arrest of rock singer George Michael on a charge of misdemeanor lewd conduct in a Beverly Hills, Calif., public restroom. Under the old laws, he would have had to register for life as a sex offender, McMahon said, and Monday's ruling revives that possibility for others in the future.

12. NO "CHRISTIANS" DO NOT SEE BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH

RADICAL RIGHT WING FUNDAMENTALIST EXTREMIST WHO MASK THEIR GREED AND POWER LUST IN THE NAME OF RELIGION SEE COURT APPOINTMENTS AS TOP BUSH AIM!!!

IF there was EVER an important time to BE SPECIFIC AND CLEAR about who the enemy is it would be RIGHT NOW when millions of progressive christians and innocent decent spiritual folk are going to be bashed, humiliated, assualted, harassed and insulted in the name of fanatical extremists. PLEASE LIBERAL COMMUNTY - PLEASE PROTECT US.

Please keep strong and clear distinctions between fanatical extremists and the many many many persons of faith in this country who are innocent. Don't fucking respond to this with sanctimonious bullshit about how we haven't done enough to oppose fanatical extremism. I just posted yesterday about all the religions organizations, institutions and communities that are doing everything they possibly can to get the word out and resist and OPPOSE this vile filth. It is not our fault that the MEDIA WILL NOT FAIRLY COVER THE ISSUES - we ALL KNOW how that works. But there is a huge and organized movement of religious resistance to fanatical extremism, through Call for Untiy, Sojourner's, Progressive Christians Uniting, the Center for Progressive Christianity, Interfaith Alliance, John Cobb and Claremont Theological Seminary (which is very politically active), countless average joes like me in the blogosphere, and volume upon volumes of books and articles written from liberal christianity speaking LOUD AND CLEAR AGAINST THE TYRANNY OF RELIGIOUS FANATISISM.

We, Christians - we of spiritual belief and a compassionate progressive spirit - are doing EVERYTHING WE KNOW TO DO to fight this crap. PLEASE, PLEASE be a community that shelters, encourages and PROTECTS us, not makes us feel even more ALIENATED by refusing to qualify language about religion and relious people. It isn't "all christians" - it is fundamentalist extremism. People talk a lot about how hard it is to be an atheist in America. I know that is true. But in the last for years and now after this election it is desparately hard to be a liberal person of faith - because fanatical extremists hate us, and most of the time, it *feels* like the left hates us to.

Please shelter us and let's work together to overcome this unspeakable evil.

As Christians we must continue to
shout from the roof tops that these people

You are right, it is extremist fundamentalism

The TRUE Christians have good reason to
ask for shelter from these people because
we can reveal them through scripture-
That's the last thing they want and so we

29. Based On The Election Numbers.... I Think It's More Than You Claim
It's not just the wacko fundamentalists but middle-of-the-road Christians too. The wacko Christian fringe has moved to Christian mainstream and whatever the liberal Christians are doing to counter it, clearly isn't enough. The evidence seems to suggest that there are more wackos than liberals... what's going on with that?

35. Then please clean your damned house; I'll happily hold your coat
Those of us who aren't believers are more hated than just about any group imaginable. It's a theocracy now, and the only hope of stalling the feudal mercantilism of the monied classes is for others of faith to organize.

I still dispute the fact that these people aren't "true Christians"; I think there's much more selfishness and cold-blooded parochialism imbedded in the faith than many believers want to accept. Enough of that, though; we need your help.

You are truly on the side of decency and humanity, but you need to shoulder some of the blame too.

17. We Dems must do everything we can ... to secure mod appts...
the A.B.A. no longer evaluates the candidates. Their candidates are always from the Federalist Society, whose members believe in 'strict interpretation.' This, of course, is a figment of their imagination, since the Founders certainly did not intend for us to keep on living like they did in the early times.

20. They Haven't Enough Votes To Do Anything Else
In the House, the Democrats are nearly impotent due to a huge Republican majority
that has been gerrymandered so badly that we have little chance of
regaining it before 2013.
In the Senate, we still have enough votes to filibuster,
while that privilege lasts. We can expect the Repubs to
abolish the filibuster at any time. They now have enough
votes to do it, even if Chafee and Snowe don't go along.
That will eliminate the last bit of leverage the Democrats
have in Washington, and allow the flood of Fundie judicial
appointments to go unabated.

24. This is the most important issue for Americans in the new administration
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 01:56 AM by hangloose
Their purpose is to change the face of the judiciary since the courts interpret and enforce the laws. The conservative leaning courts need to be on board first, so the radical legislation to be passed by the republican dominated congress will not be over turned when challenges are made by the ACLU among others. This process of placing conservative judges began with the Gipper, followed by Bush 1 and to be continued by Bush 2. * will have the opportunity to stack the court and seal our fate unless we stop him.

This is the key to their plan to establish a theocracy.

No, I'm not crazy a theocracy.
