Optical Scanners Slow Colo. Vote Count (Musgrave's opponent won't concede)
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 09:51 PM by party_line
DENVER (AP) -- A county that switched this year from voter punch cards to an electronic scanner system still had hundreds of uncounted ballots Friday, holding up a congressional race and the balance of the state legislature.

Boulder County's new optical scanners that read voters' marks on a paper ballot were rejecting improperly marked ballots, slowing the tally.

County officials said they hoped to have final results before the end of the week as three shifts of election judges work almost around-the-clock to feed ballots through eight counting machines. By early Friday, the county had completed counting ballots from 159 of 230 precincts.

The slow pace left the outcome of at least two races in question, at least for the apparent losers: the 4th Congressional District rematch between Republican incumbent Marilyn Musgrave and Stan Matsunaka, a Democrat and former president of the state Senate; and a state Senate race between Democrat Brandon Shaffer and Republican Sandy Hume.
.......
Musgrave declared victory days ago with overall returns giving her 51 percent to Matsunaka's 44 percent. But results had been posted in only nine of the 57 Boulder County precincts within the sprawling eastern Colorado district.

Matsunaka refused to concede, saying he and his campaign staff were checking in regularly for results.

There are democrats with real guts. Stan's the man. Thank you Mr.Matsunaka for being the candidate to really have our back!

Corporate America controls the media and we get manufactured news.
Corporate America now controls the voting machines and we get manufactured elections.

4. This scan problem makes no sense at all
We feed our ballots into the optical scan machine right after we vote. You don't leave the building until the ballot is fed into the machine. You can see the counter on the machine tick up one as you do it. This doesn't say it's a recount (which would be by hand anyway) so WHY is anyone feeding anything in to be scanned at THIS point?

Close this window now if you are easily offended.
................................................................................................................

It reminds me of an exchange with someone that worked with Joan Crawford when asked if she was really a bitch. That person's reply was that she had "c&$@ hairs like limbs on trees."

That exchange occurred about thirty years' ago. You can imagine how my jaw dropped as my tender ears swelled in disbelief. And yet it still retains much of the toxicity.

Now that I've exposed DU to it, I must say that Musgrave is a virtual rainforest by comparison.
