Rumsfeld on new visit to Middle East region

(07:55) The American Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, is on his way to the Middle East on a previously unannounced trip to meet with US commanders and troops in the region.

Mr Rumsfeld, whose aircraft refuelled at Shannon airport during the night, would say only that he was making 'multiple stops' in the US central command area which includes Iraq and Afghanistan.

Further details were withheld for security reasons. (snip/...)
