Nader requests N.H. vote recount
Nader requests N.H. vote recount

By KEVIN LANDRIGAN, Telegraph Staff

Published: Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004

CONCORD - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader requested a hand recount of ballots in New Hampshire after getting seven-tenths of 1 percent of the vote.

“We have received reports of irregularities in the vote reported on the AccuVote Diebold Machines in comparison to exit polls and trends in voting in New Hampshire,’’ Nader wrote.

“These irregularities favor President George W. Bush by 5 percent to 15 percent over what was expected. Problems in these electronic voting machines and optical scanners are being reported in machines in a variety of states.’’

Nader’s recount request came in as a fax at 4:59 p.m., one minute before the deadline.

1. How about FL?
Wish he would have asked for one there.

17. Florida is going to cost us way more than
$2000. Plus, it looks better to begin the recount in a state Kerry won but the numbers still seem incredibly out of whack.

3. Saw a CNN crawl earlier that his request was denied because
he missed the deadline.

4. He didn't send a check but that may go to court
Interesting CNN didn't add that bit of info.

19. actually...
The article says the authorities _didn't_ consider Nader's request valid. But it did say he could appeal the decision in court:

"Nader’s recount request came in as a fax at 4:59 p.m., one minute before the deadline.

The application is not legal, however, because it did not come with payment, according to Assistant Attorney General Bud Fitch.

“At this point, we aren’t considering it to be a valid request,’’ he said."

5. My understanding is that recounts on Diebold machines
...are meaningless. You can't get a genuine recount of votes by candidate.

9. Those are actually optical scan machines, as I understand it.
So, there are actual paper ballots, I presume, that can be re-counted by hand. But I heard Nader didn't send a check so it might be too late.

8. Demos are gone
but may be back if there is a hand count.

This is just the beginning. NH had the largest descrepancy between exit polls and actual reported votes in the country.

12. How ironic...if only Nader had been allowed to be on the Ohio ballot...
...could he have requested the same?

15. Well, Bandarick is on OH ballot.
Nader is on Florida's ballot, and Florida looks to be fishiest of them all to me. But I heard Nader didn't send check before the deadline, so it might be too late.

He is considering. Perhaps we should implore him?

21. ABSOLUTELY! We need to write to him, call him - NOW!
Someone please get a thread calling this to action...I've got to go to sleep right now, but I think this is important...I'll check back in the morning and get on it if it hasn't been started...I also think we need to email Randi Rhoades and others about it...
