Fear, violence reign on Haifa Street
The killings were performed with a kind of gangland bravado meant to remind the people of Haifa Street that their neighborhood belonged not to them, not to Iraqi or U.S. forces, but to Iraq (news - web sites)'s 18-month insurgency.

Shortly before noon on Monday, two masked gunmen in a sedan pulled up to a garage where two Iraqi police officers were fixing their car. The gunmen jumped out and, without saying a word, riddled the two officers with bullets.

Horrified onlookers ran for cover, said U.S. Army Capt. Chris Ford, who investigated the killings. Then, turning their AK-47 assault rifles toward those fleeing, the attackers sprayed a 360-degree swath of gunfire, shattering storefront windows and filling surrounding houses and apartment buildings with an unbroken circle of bullet holes.

Before speeding off, the gunmen shouted a warning, Ford said: "You help these people, or bury them, and we will kill you!"

2. Copernicus about to be jailed
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 09:48 AM by saigon68
For advocating that the Sun does not revolve around the earth

Two other Italian scientists of the time, Galileo and Bruno, embraced the Copernican theory unreservedly and as a result suffered much personal injury at the hands of the powerful church inquisitors. Giordano Bruno had the audacity to even go beyond Copernicus, and, dared to suggest, that space was boundless and that the sun was and its planets were but one of any number of similar systems: Why! -- there even might be other inhabited worlds with rational beings equal or possibly superior to ourselves. For such blasphemy, Bruno was tried before the Inquisition, condemned and burned at the stake in 1600. Galileo was brought forward in 1633, and, there, in front of his "betters," he was, under the threat of torture and death, forced to his knees to renounce all belief in Copernican theories, and was thereafter sentenced to imprisonment for the remainder of his days.

4. Haifa Street should be renamed "Bush Square"
or "Perle Plaza"

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/9/22/21447/9277

"And a year from now, I'll be very surprised if there is not some grand square in Baghdad that is named after President Bush. There is no doubt that, with the exception of a very small number of people close to a vicious regime, the people of Iraq have been liberated and they understand that they've been liberated." - Richard Perle, 9/22/03

5. Bush square, that's a good one
Richard Perle no doubt is valued for his knowledge of Iraqi affairs.

He was a major propagandist for our warm reception there which his phony intellectual affect did little to make credible.

7. These people don't sound like true Muslims. Burial is sacred to a true
Muslim. This sounds very suspicious to me.
