US Colonel: All Mosque Bombing Suspects Are Iraqis
Hi mods. Every headline we see names either Saudis, Al Qaeda, or other outside forces as those in custody as suspects. But inside this story we see that is untrue, So I have not used the original the headline of this story for reasons of clarification. If you decide that this is not OK please lock or move this thread. Thank you all for your hard work. And I trust your judgement here. Don

US examines Iraq suspects' computers

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2003/09/02/us_examines_iraq_suspects_computers/

<snip>A three-member advance FBI team was traveling to Najaf yesterday evening at the invitation of the local governor. Other US intelligence agencies already were interrogating suspects and examining the seized computers. The three computers were seized along with four people at a house in Najaf by Iraqi police and turned over to the US military. Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Woodbridge, commander of the First Battalion of the Seventh Marines in Najaf, said the computers had been given to an "other governmental agency," the military's terminology for a group of agencies including the National Security Agency, CIA, and FBI.

<snip>Still, after early announcements by Iraqi authorities that several foreign suspects with Al Qaeda connections had been arrested, US military officials yesterday said only six suspects had been taken into custody, all Iraqi citizens.

One has family or business connections to Jordan, Woodbridge said.

So far, there was no evidence linking the suspects to Al Qaeda or the Ba'ath Party, he added.

1. just wait another day or two
the story will have changed again.

I suspect that "round up the usual suspects" exercise that went on shortly after the martyring of Hakim was just to put forth some image that the authorities are NOT completely powerless, really they have control over what's going on, just go shopping and everything's really going good. Thus Chalabi goes right out and says what Rumsfeld wants to hear, it's "regime loyalists" (admittedly, I suspected that also for it was for once one of the only suggestions that made sense) and "al-Qai'dah", etc..
