AP Poll: Taxes are low-priority issue for voters
The Associated Press

Sunday, November 7, 2004

(11-07) 11:31 PST (AP) --

FIRST THINGS FIRST -- Twenty-seven percent of voters said resolving the situation in Iraq should be President Bush's top priority.

TAXES -- A top priority for only 2 percent. Two-to-one, voters said they would rather balance the budget than cut taxes.

WHAT ELSE? -- Others chose terrorism (23 percent), the economy (18 percent), health care (14 percent), unemployment (7 percent) and education (7 percent) as top priorities for the president.

1. Maybe, but tax cuts are high priority for the wealthy and corprations
I know, corporations don't vote, but they do find ways to "market" tax cuts and to lobby for tax cuts and to get people elected who will give them tax cuts.

4. The polling companies are contradicting themselves
According to the exit polls, jobs and the economy were on the minds of just as much of the electorate as "moral values" were.

16. No Tell Me You Are Shitting Me
They think that the reason they can not find a job is because "God is testing them?" Are they all named Job? The fucking pun there is too fucking rich and ironic.

Holy shit why am I in this hand basket?

7. This is only "top priority."
It's a bit misleading. I doubt there are many who consider taxes "top priority", except the mega rich, if the poll only lets you pick one thing.

9. Well, I betcha the first thing
done will be to give a tax cut to the richest--you know, the ones GeeDubya said don't pay taxes because the got accountants? He'll find a way to give 'em relief from something he says they don't do, and he'll by lying when he does it.

Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 06:41 PM by brundle_seth
completely misleading...

of course you are going to pick terrorism over taxes...well I wouldnt, but you get the jist. This almost seems like a legitimization of a new freedom sales tax for the war effort.

well americans chose the tax two to one....etc.

FUCK THE BOZOS.

I suppose we will hear that they are OK, when it supports someone's agenda.

13. in poll after poll, including the 11/2/04 exit polls, taxes run about 5%
in interest level on why someone voted versus high numbers for terror, jobs, etc. There's only one reason to reform the code now; he is going to make his wealthy buddies even wealthier.

17. one very perceptive DUer suggested that...
... some of the people whose real top concern was taxes chose "moral values" as a more pious-sounding copout answer.

I forget which one of us it was who said that. But I thought it was pretty perceptive.
