Byrd slams Bush with budget report on Iraq occupation
By Paul J. Nyden
STAFF WRITER

Congress reconvened Wednesday, and U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd spoke about a new government study warning about growing problems in Iraq.

“As the cost of our occupation of Iraq continues to grow, it is increasingly apparent to the American people that the White House has gotten the United States more deeply involved in Iraq than the administration’s pre-war rhetoric would ever have led us to believe,” Byrd said.

Today, the United States has 136,000 troops in Iraq, 34,000 in Kuwait and 9,600 in Afghanistan

Being that I'm writing this at pharmacy school at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center at WVU of which I drove from Parkersburg utilizing the Robert C. Byrd Appalachian highway system to get here, I seriously doubt WV citizens would EVER be dumb enough NOT to vote for RCB. We may be hillbillies, but we aren't THAT ignorant.

If the Rep. party is silly enough to spend large amounts of cash in an unwinnable war, so be it, the less they can spend on national races.

6. Maybe we can get an "Iraq War Cost" clock
like the old "Deficit Clock".

And have a side counter with "Number of days without an American soldier killed in Iraq". Unfortunately, it would probably only need room for one digit, unless something happens in Nov 2004.

7. Daschle on C-span now about this. Admin wants add'l $70 billion
for Iraq. He wants to know how much administration is spending or planning to spend on schools in rural Iraq when supposedly we don't have any for rural schools in this country.

9. I'd like to see some sort of accounting of how they
spent the first 80 billion. It sure didn't reach the supply train to the troops. * and Co need to be stopped - it is surely their mission to bleed this country dry, suck out every last dime, funnel it into Halliburton, KBR, tax cuts to the insanely rich, and not leave a crumb for education, healthcare, or education. Soon we will all just be lowly serfs, working to pay our gracious landlords, mastas *, Rove, and Cheney.

10. Byrd
despite his past, that old man earned my trust when he argued and filibustered for days to prevent the Iraq war vote, almost singlehandedly.
It was his finest hour.
