British Soldier Killed South of Baghdad

LONDON - A British soldier was killed and two others were wounded Monday, apparently by a roadside bomb near the troops' new base in a violent region south of Baghdad, the Ministry of Defense said.

The Black Watch regiment was moved last week from relatively peaceful southern Iraq to the higher-risk area closer to Baghdad in order to free up U.S. troops for an assault on the insurgent stronghold of Fallujah.
