NAME-CHANGE AMNESTY: Change your username without penalty until Nov. 22

There are many DU members whose usernames became obsolete on election day. For example, if their usernames referred to John Kerry or any other Democratic candidate. If you have an obsolete username, you have the opportunity to change your username without penalty between now and Monday, November 22.

Members who change their usernames will not lose their post counts or donor stars. If you change your name, you will be automatically assigned a special red signature line which includes your former username.

You will have only one opportunity to change your name. Please don't screw it up, or else you're stuck with it.

We hope that most members will keep their current names, because too many new names will cause mass confusion. If you do not have an obsolete username then we hope you will choose not to change your name, but we are not going to stop you if you do.

10. My first attempt to register at DU failed and I had to add an underscore

to Swamp Rat (Swamp_Rat) in order to keep my handle. There is an account named "Swamp Rat" that I created and can no longer access. I couldn't retreive my initial password because the email account I had no longer exists (the server shut down and company disappeared). Since I was ready to start posting I made due with the alteration, but I'd like to have my original handle back.

Can you erase that account and/or delete the underscore from "Swamp_Rat" so I can continue as "Swamp Rat"... pretty please? :)

I do not use my real name and can't speak for anyone else BUT I can tell you from experience that it isn't a wise thing to do. I don't want to get in details here but there are evil people out there who will stop at NOTHING to cause you grief if you offend them by something you say. Your choice, I just don't advice it.
