Boycotting (TX) Dems take new tack (Bush Challenge)
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/nation/2081227

Ten boycotting Democratic senators turned their Texas congressional redistricting battle into a challenge to President Bush's re-election Wednesday, a day after hopes of stopping a Republican plan in the Legislature appeared crushed by the defection of a Houston lawmaker.

The Democrats plan to meet today with some of their party's presidential candidates, hold news conferences in the nation's capital and join a national barnstorming campaign to motivate minority voters for the 2004 presidential elections.

The senators said they want to pressure Bush into intervening to stop the Texas redistricting process.

"We intend to force the president's hand," said Sen. Eddie Lucio, D-Brownsville. "He may either own up to his behind-the-scenes involvement, or he can make the telephone call that will stop this sham process."

1. I'll bet money...
Bush comes out and says it's a State matter, not requiring his attention. I base that opinion on his record thus far.

The Texas Dems have been a light of hope for all of us. My eariler post was just a comment on what I think Bush will do.

7. Give the guy a break
Being a legislator in TX is a part-time job. He can't earn a living if he is hiding out in another state for the next year and a half.

8. Won't have a job anyway
If * gets re-selected because this person capitulated, then they'll probably be unemployed soon enough. Might as well make a stand and tighten his own fiscal belt than to let the unholy Texas Republican Machine win. IMHO...

10. If * says this is a State issue and he can't get involved
someone in the media needs to ask - *, just what the hell can you get involved in? The answer is simple. He could jump right into the dockworker's strike last fall - because it served the needs of big business. He not only jumped into the Iraq situation, he created it - so that he could serve the oil industry. He has not effectively jumped into the Enron bidness - because it would be damaging to his business friends.

Someone really needs to run with where his leadership is used. This could be a great chance.

11. This seems to be the wrong spin on the matter.
"We intend to force the president's hand," said Sen. Eddie Lucio, D-Brownsville. "He may either own up to his behind-the-scenes involvement, or he can make the telephone call that will stop this sham process."

"Forcing hands" and "behind-the-scenes involvement" sounds too much like spin without being spin. It is going to turn off the masses who don't understand things conceptually and think in terms of basic values.

Why not something like this: "We respectfully ask President and former Governor of Texas Bush to do his Texas duty and bring the State back together, to bring some civility and respect to the state government over which he once presided, and to be a 'uniter,' like we know he can be."

Kiss his ass a little bit -- who cares if he looks like the hero, at least you don't lose ten Congressional seats. He might even be stupid enough to fall for it.

Why do the Democrats always -- and I do mean always -- have the wrong spin on things? Is it the media, or are they just too fucking stupid to think ahead and strategize? Or is everyone so scared of what that fat, disgusting imbecile Karl Rove is going to do next that they can't even function?
