British police uncover massive Colombian drugs, bonds racket

LONDON (AFP) - Suspected US bonds worth six billion dollars (5.5 billion euros) have been seized in raids by British officers investigating a Colombian drugs and money cartel, police said.

Thirteen people were held after two raids in July and August at addresses in and around London spearheaded by Britain's National Crime Squad (NCS), a spokeswoman told AFP.
As a result of the investigation, information was passed to the Colombian authorities and a joint operation was set up.
News of the drugs and money bust only emerged Thursday after Colombian authorities announced details of the raids.

"The bonds that we have recovered have a face value of six billion dollars," NCS spokeswoman Jackie Bennett told AFP.

"We are still conducting inquiries as to whether the bonds are genuine or not," she said....>>
