Bush administration moving ahead on forest and salmon (logging and roads)
GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — The Northwest can expect more of the same effort to overhaul national forest management and salmon recovery from President Bush following his re-election.

Battles continue over the administration's plan to lift Clinton-era prohibitions on logging and road building in 58 million acres of remote national forests unless governors petition to protect them, rebuilding threatened and endangered runs of salmon, and the Northwest Forest Plan, which balances logging against fish and wildlife habitat.

The environmental groups that have opposed the president every step of the way say they will continue fighting those overhauls in courtrooms and the halls of Congress.

"In his acceptance speech, (President Bush) said he wanted to be president of all Americans and reach across the aisle to do bipartisan legislation," said Jay Ward, conservation director of the Oregon Natural Resources Council in Portland. The current roadless policy his administration is attempting to ram through is not bipartisan. It goes against nearly every interest group from conservationists to hunters, anglers and Columbia Sportswear. They're going to turn it over to the governors of some of those red states."

"He may be smarter than the average bear but he can't outrun an M-60!" crowed one young Marine as he blasted away into the forest.

9. Nice legacy
* is apparently prioritizing irreversable acts. Banning gay marriage may eventually get overturned, but once all the trees are gone and the kickbacks are in his pocket, there's not much us gawdam homo-humpin' libruls can do about it.
