A Look at U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq

As of Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at least 1,175 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq (news - web sites) war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 903 died as a result of hostile action, the Defense Department said as of Friday. The figures include three military civilians. The department did not provide an update Saturday.

The AP count is nine higher than the Defense Department's tally, which was last updated Friday at 10 a.m. EST.

Since May 1, 2003, when President Bush (news - web sites) declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 1,037 U.S. military members have died, according to AP's count. That includes at least 794 deaths resulting from hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

1. Nobody really knows
It seems they do not count soldiers who die from wounds after they are evacuated from Iraq.

From the second sentence? And I have no comment as to what number is accurate and (insert bad word here) about the whole thing. Repeat prior bad word.
