Proposed bill would give softwood duties to U.S. lumber companies
VANCOUVER - - A powerful U.S. senator is set to introduce legislation next week to pay American lumber companies the more than $3 billion in softwood lumber duties the Americans have collected, The Canadian Press has learned.

The bill - to be introduced as early as Monday - comes despite the fact the softwood lumber dispute remains mired in trade litigation and the World Trade Organization has found such a move violates international rules

1. they're both wrong
As long as both sides of the border are treating forests like tree farms and just refuse to operate with a long range view, then I have no use for either of them.

5. This is the same old bullshit...
I hope we start putting additional duty on our oil and gas exports. If Baucus wants a trade war, bring it on!

If this passes, we, too, can ignore NAFTA and hike up the cost of our exports on essential goods that are needed in the US and use that duty to purchase those US businesses that will go down because they cannot afford to pay the duty just as US lumber corporations have been doing here.
