Bush Acknowledges Economy Needs Work
Bush Acknowledges Economy Needs Work
By SCOTT LINDLAW, Associated Press Writer

INDIANAPOLIS - President Bush said Friday that discouraging new jobless figures made clear that "we've got to do something" about an economy that shows signs of recovery but is still shedding jobs.

snip....

"Unfortunately, we did not need further evidence that the economic policies of George W. Bush have failed working Americans," said presidential candidate Howard Dean "These 93,000 Americans are only the latest victims of the administration's failed trickle-down ideology."

Added Rep. Richard Gephardt of Missouri, another Democratic presidential contender: "The economy continues its downward spiral today with news of 93,000 jobs lost in August, the deepest job loss in the last five months and the seventh straight month that employers have cut jobs."

1. the headlines get more and more hilarious!
Yeah, the economy needs work... literally, as in jobs.

(from article)

Job creation is often a lagging indicator, he said, "the last thing to arrive on the scene" in a recovery.

The last thing... is that before, or after the WMDs? (ba-dum-dum!)

Thanks! I'll be here all week!

2. Usually the job creation part of the "recovery" is so lagging.....
it happens well after the Republican administration has left office.

5. "Needs Work"...A "Fixer-Upper"?
It's too late, Chimpy. Saying the "Economy needs work" is like seeing a house listed as a "Fixer-upper" and you arrive to find the health department bulldozing it.

6. He's been saying this for years now, and still nothing.
More empty promises, more looting of the treasury. I was underemployed, now I am unemployed and going to bartending school. That's quite a drop from being a systems administrator. but, hey!! Go Bush!! NOT!!

19. The unemployment numbers are dropping because
peoples benifits have run out and they are falling off of the roles. They have been unemployed that long. How did the Clinton administration create 23 million jobs and still have unemployed people? 12-13% unemployment is how, but only 6.something% is what Bush I had reported.

10. Golly George
What if you hadn't been fiddle-farting around down in Crawford for the last five weeks? You only just noticed that the economy's in the crapper, and that everything you've tried so far has inured to the sole benefit of your cronies and contributors?

Believe it or not, you pinhead, you're supposed to be President for all the people, not just the ones lavishing cash on you. But now that you're aware of the problem, the $64 question is:

What are you going to do about it?

16. Dean has a great way with words
He speaks with the passion of a true patriot. If he is nominated, I will be pleased. But I agree with another poster who said what a strong field of candidates we have. Among the contenders, the only one I don't care for is Lieberman, for sucking up to Bush too much.
The only reason Bush cares about jobs is for political reasons. If we depended on his compassion for ordinary people, we would be screwed, for he has none.
